Sex and Mono!

So last wk I was diagnosed with Mono. I work at Zales and Christmas time is perfect to catch anything in retail.. So here I am sick as hell. I really want my husband but I don't wanna give this to him! lol Maybe if we dont kiss? haha just a thought anyways.

Re: Sex and Mono!

  • You don't get it from kissing, per se. Somehow mono picked up the *subclassification*  "the kissing disease."
  • Mono isn't something every adult is able to get.  Depending on your H's past exposure to things like chicken pox, herpes and shingles, he may not be able to become infected.  The incubation period for Mono isn't super short, so odds are he has already been exposed.

Having said all that, you should not be having sex.  Frequent physical activity can damage your spleen.  Try to rest for a few weeks.

Here's some information on Epstein Barr Virus from the CDC.

     Important points:

Many children have been infected and hence have antibodies.  The virus in children likely appears no differently than other childhood illness (ie it is not associated with feeling tired for weeks on end)

Even if a person has NOT be infected during childhood, only 35-50% of those people exposed develop the symptoms of infectious mononucleosis (mono).

Healthy people can carry the virus and spread it intermitently throughout life.

Infection requires contact with someone else's saliva.

  • You should be resting.  You could end up with spleen damage and in hospital!  I am sure your husband understands.  Rest rest rest.
  • Mutual mastrubation? lol. Or at least singular..if you feel up to it, I'd go for it!

Yep.  This isn't something you want to play around with.  I mean, unless being sliced open for emergency surgery sounds like a barrel of monkeys to you.  Sorry.

  • I know people who've had mono that have ruptured spleens from a lot less strenuous active than sex.

    Get better!

  • You need to rest, the jostling could rupture your spleen if it is really swollen.

DH had it back in high school when we started dating and we were stupid 16 year olds, and ignored everything we were told to stay away from each other.  He was soooo sick for so long because he didn't rest as much as he should have whenever I came over.  I know I should have stayed away, but it was summer and we were bored. Nothing happened to his spleen thankfully, we didn't realize how dangerous it was, but I do worry if we did cause permanent damage now.

Anyhow, I didn't end up gettin sick.  My mother was so afraid I would get sick while we were on vacation she had me on Echinacia (sp?) to keep me from getting sick and that only made me break out in hives instead.
