Anybody here had treatment with lupron?

If so, what was your experience?

Re: Anybody here had treatment with lupron?

  • It was the most god awful thing ever, and even after I stopped the effects took nearly a year to go away.

    But some people are fine.

If you have any history of depression, dont do it, you will get depressed and its soooooo hard to get the anti depressant medications to help.

Its really a useless drug as it only takes away the pain for 6 months and does NOTHING to improve your endo.

CEC Centerforendometriosiscare....I forget if its org or com Google it  also google Dr Redwine for articles....way better options out there

    Lupron is just poisen.

  • I don't have endometriosis -- I have fibroids and I only found out this past week that's what the cause of my problem is.

There's probably a way to shrink them holistically. I've been looking into that.

  • My doctor suggested the treatment to me less than a month ago. I personally haven't done it, but I haven't found anyone my age (mid to late twenties, no children) who has had a positive experience. I agree with pp - I've done my research and there are definitely other answers. I actually had a laparoscopy done right before Christmas and it helped immensely...

  • My OBGYN swore by it. She blamed everything that went wrong with me on not having the lupron. I did my research and it wasn't for me. I'm too worried about life long side effects that would occur years from now. Everyone I asked about it said it was the most awful year of their life!!!

  • I'm on it right now... It's certainly not the most fun medication to take but compared to constant spotting and everyday pain from my endo, I will take the hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings etc.

I was diagnosed with Endo in 2007 with a laparoscopy and my dr recommended starting Lupron right away.  Well I read the side effects and decided that being menopausal at age 22 while in PA school was not a good idea so I cont BC pills instead.  I ended up having heavy spotting and constant pain for about 11 months straight before I finally gave in and started the Lupron.  The pain and bleeding initially got worse then better within about a month.  It has been the only medicine that has stopped my spotting and the pain is now about a 2-3/10 instead of about a 6.  It has helped me at least be able to stand intercourse where before we could only do it with the lights off so DH wouldn't be able to see the faces that I was making..

Sorry for the long reponse but if you have any more questions I can tell you lots about Lupron, both good and bad.

  • I had the 6 month long treatment, and it was pretty rough. I had severe issues with depression the last 4 months, fatigue like no other, and hot flashes constantly. But the thing is, it definitely beat the chronic intense abdominal pain I had been battling for years due to endo! I'm three months off the treatment and I'm still pain free, and expect to be for 2 or more years. BTW, I had the lap surgery before the Lupron, and I still had plenty of pain problems the 3 months following the surgery and before the Lupron. The combo for both is supposed to be the best way, ESPECIALLY if you are trying to conceive. Lupron elliminates all of the sludge buildup of endo tissue that sperm can not swim through, and surgery can't get rid of.
  • I had huge fibroids when I as in my early 20;s and used Lupron to shrink them before my myomectomy to remove them.   The hot flashes were terrible I literally stuck my head in the freezer sometimes for relief I could not go anywhere without air conditioning, but my fibroids did shrink significantly and I had my surgery without any complications besides the norm like pain.  That is really the only terrible side effect I can remember but I have no regrets because I was miserable back then extremely heavy periods and debilitating cramping during my periods.
