i recently came across this website called bookmooch.com. It is basically a way to exchange books with other people online.
First, you list books that you have and want to give away. When someone wants your book, they send you a request, and if you choose to accept it, you just send them the book thru usps media mail, which is only a couple bucks. Then for each book you give, you get credits that you can use to receive books from other users.
I'm new to it, but think it seems like a cool idea. I usually keep all of my favorite books, but I have a few that I've read that I didn't care for, or just know ill never read again. So it seems like a good way to clean off my bookshelf and save a little $$ on new reading material.
Has anyone used this site before? If so, what do u think of it??
Re: for bookworms...
I don't use that one, but I do use www.paperbackswap.com. Been using PBS for a couple years now. Same idea: When you first start you have to list like 9 books you are willing to send out. You get credits for each book you send which can be used to get books you want. Things are also sent media mail (avg is about $2.50 or so to send stuff).
Biggest catch I've found is that you have to be flexible as to what you are getting and when. Meaning if you want that best seller, so do other people so you might have to Wish List it and wait in line to get it on PBS. Also, Media Mail can take up to 3 weeks to get to where its going.
Only problem I've ever had on PBS was actually courtesy of the USPS (so could happen to bookmooch too)...a book I sent out was lost in the mail.
ETA: I've found it to be a very budget friendly way to clean off my bookshelf some and to try out new authors on the cheap.

I've heard of both, but haven't used either.
I'm torn on the concept. I like the idea, but I'm also a book fiend. I'd be very hesitant to send mine off...and I'd probably be very unlikely to return the ones I do get.
Though, I may check them out just to see what people are reading -- might be a good way to get recommendations!
