Update on the loan -- more vibes if possible.

So, Dh called me. They LOVED him!! They were super impressed by his presentation (good thing -- we spent all night last night putting on the finishing touches). They loved our idea, execution, and preparation. But there is no decision yet.

This loan is through the state rehabilitation office. As we've discussed before, DH has crippling allergies. Plus, he has asthma, is dyslexic, and extremely OCD. So, they loved him and want to give us a loan, but they have to prove that his disabilities prevent him from "working a normal job". I think it should be easy considering he's had places not hire him bc of his peanut allergy -- even Starbucks said he would be let go if he couldn't handle the pastries bc he couldn't fulfill the duties of the job. He's getting all his medical records faxed in and has to meet with them again Feb 4. He said they probably still won't have an answer then, but will have more information on how to move forward.

So girls any continued well wishes that this goes through would be greatly appreciated. And if you want to throw in vibes for this to hop on the fast track, that would be great.

Re: Update on the loan -- more vibes if possible.

  • I don't understand how dyslexia, asthma and OCD would prevent him from working "a normal job"?  Are they classified as a disability?
  • Yes, they are classified as disabilies. You can get funding for college from them as well with these disabilities. Asthma can be crippling and the medication is about as harmful as it is helpful. Dyslexia is quite difficult to work with. DH has been written up in past jobs for mischarging people bc he misreads the numbers.

And at least these are real issues opposed the the person that went in before DH. His clain was he was too fat to work at a regular job and need money to start an internet company.

    Edit: http://www.adata.org/whatsada-definition.aspx

Here's a link that descibes what qualifies as a disabiliy. Below is copied from the source above.

    Example:
A person who cannot read due to dyslexia is an individual with a disability because dyslexia, which is a learning disability, is an impairment.

  • Wow!  More vibes to you!!!

And I didn't know these were considered disabilities!  Thanks for opening my eyes a bit more!

  • The Nest kept wierding out when I replied to your last post, but major vibes going your way!!!

  • fingers crossed! Sounds very promising!!!!!!
  • This is going to be a REALLY stupid question, but will they be more likely to give him the loan because he's got labeled disabilities?  Once he proves that they they won't prevent him from working a normal job like they've asked.  I'm thinking of it in the sense that there are 3 types of people who are more likely to get gov't contracts:  minority, disabled, military veteran.

I know that disabilities can be a touchy subject, and I just want to make sure you know that there isn't any kind of hidden meaning behind my question.  I'm just generally curious.

I hope it all works out!

  • Is this a business loan? It seems really risky to give a loan to somone with disabilities because they prevent him from working a mainstream job. I hope it works out. If your dh can succeed at this new endeavor - more power to him.

  • Call me stupid, but isn't running a business more intense/strenuous than having a "regular" job?  I mean, more power to ya, but if it's truly a disability I can't see how it's better to be the boss.

The rehabilitation center is an aid to those that have disabilities. They only assist people with disabilities. It's for medical bills, schooling, businesses, etc. Dh and I both used to get funding for school from them bc of our asthma, so Dh looked into it for business loans, which they do offer.

It's quite confusing to be honest. We have to deal with it and it's hard to wrap all the way around.

That's what one would think. I don't understand why they fund businesses, but I'm not going to complain.

And yes, the disability is exactly like you said, making it just as bad for being a boss as an employee. That's why we have a business partner and me working in the business -- to handle the things he can't, like our budget. I'm guessing the justification is creating a business with a position you can fulfill?

That totally makes sense and I could see why then the center would want to help people in your hubs position...If people wont hire you, or you cant fulfil all the duties of most jobs, then creating a business in which you have a position that you can work in makes sense. Thats pretty cool that there is help out there like that. Good luck again!
