Would you ever...

If you had a little girl would you ever put her into pageants?  I am watching "Little Miss Perfect" right now, and am totally floored by the little girls getting spray tanned.

Re: Would you ever...

  • I think I've seen one too many show about beauty pageants so I don't think I would go anywhere near them!

PS: I'm so jealous that you're at home watching that show right now!

  • I don't think I could. It seems to me like a lot of emphasis is put on looks and a fake image and a lot of money being spent on that. Just not something that I really agree with. If my daughter got a little older and she wanted to try it, that might be different. I guess I'd have to be in that situation to know for sure though.
  • Nope. If she wants to when she's older then that's fine, but I'm not introducing her to them. Toddlers in Tiaras commercial clips scare me.

  • Never. Hopefully my little girl would never want to.

  • When I was little my mom was lucky if she could brush my hair. I am sure my kid will be the same way. But if she is older and tells me she really wants to do it then I would have to think about it because I wouldn't want to just shoot down one of her ideas.

  • No.  I don't think I would put my child into pagents.  I'm just not sure they promote the right things.  I'd rather have her involved in sports or music or something that will broaden her horizons more.

  • No, especially not at such a young age, I think it promotes unhealthy expectations.

  • No.  If they chose to as a teen, I would allow it.  But toddlers should not be put in beauty pageants.  They should not wear make-up (unless it is playing at home) and parade around in skimpy outfits in front of pedophiles. Talk about setting your kid up for a life-time of low self-esteem.

  • Those shows terrify me.  However, as a little girl, I wanted more than anything to be in a pageant (and to be a ballerina), and my parents wouldn't hear of it- and it broke my five-year-old heart.  If my daughter WANTED to do it, I would allow her to, but there would be limits.  No fake eyelashes, no wigs, no skimpy clothing, no street corner makeup.  And if she tells me that she won't win without any of those things, then I'll tell her that winning this pageant isn't worth it, because nothing is worth her integrity.  I had a friend who grew up in pageants, but her mother knew where to draw the line.  It's all in how you handle it, I think.

  • Eff no. I have never watched one of those shows, but the commercials alone are horrifying.

  • If the pageants weren't so insane, I would. But as they are, no way.

She'll take dance classes though, and get to dress up in a tutu or whatever for the recital, so hopefully that'll be enough for her.?

  • Pageants?  No.  I think they are pretty wrong.  Not that I plan on having a kid anytime soon...or maybe ever...

Dancing (and cheerleading)? Definitely.  They were some of my best experiences as a kid/teen.
