Dentist

I'm such a wuss...a HUGE one when it comes to the dentist! haha I have to go in for 2 small fillings and I'm assuming they'll give me novocane.  I never had this done...how bad is the needle? Do they at least numb the area before they insert the needle? I'm terrified of needles to begin with, but to have one go in my mouth, makes it a gazzilion times worse! lol

Re: Dentist

  • I am a MEGA wuss when it comes to the dentist. I have a huge fear and I'm considering getting valium and maybe laughing gas for when I have to go because it is a major fear for me. Novacane isn't too bad... they do a topical numb but you can still feel the needle. I totally can sympathize with you!

  • I am exactly like you! I fear the dentist like nothing else!!!! I agree with Abbie, most dentists use a topical first but you do still feel the needle. As with most needles its over pretty quickly and it really is the worst part of the whole experience. So once that's done, you can relax throughout the rest of the procedure. Good luck!

  • EEEEK! How painful is the needle? Like am I going to cry/jump out of my chair in pain? haha

  • No, you won't cry or jump out of your chair... trust me, if I can handle it you can (I am SUCH a wuss!!!). :D Its like they always say for needles, its a pinch. It just happens to be in a place where you don't normally feel pinches. Really, I hope I'm not making it sound worse than it is. No, its not fun. No, I wouldn't do it if I didn't HAVE to, but honestly, its not that bad and it will be over before you know it.

Ok, I feel a little better now...haha I still think I need some of that laughing gas!

  • sooo glad to know there are other babies out there when it comes to the dentist.  i stopped going for about 14 years and just went back june 2009. 14 YEARS!

i have to get my wisdom teeth removed. they cause me pain and could cause an infection. everyone says they need to be removed. but then lovely family members share their 'drugged up' stories and i have absolutely no desire to go through that. i dont want to be put to sleep. i dont want to be awake through the procedure. sigh.

I just love it when people feel the need to share their "worst-case scenario" stories...thanks I wasn't already nervous.  I don't mind the dentist as I have never had anything too major (4 teeth pulled as a teen, but I was out)....the idea of having a cavity terrifies me!

I hate that too! Flamooglenoggin... it wasn't so bad when I had my wisdom teeth out. Of course I was a teen so I hear it is easier when you are younger, but they gave me a pill to relax me before I even got there, so I barely remember even going into the dentist's office. I didn't even take the codiene they gave me afterwards!

It's been about 2 years since I've gone and I really need to go. I have a broken tooth and a cavity that need to both be fixed (they should both just need fillings), but on the left side of my mouth I have two teeth that broke when I was playing sports in HS and they both had root canals on them, but my first dentist refused to put a permanent crown on them, so they broke and at this point need to be removed. I am so scared to have this done! Plus it will be $$$ because I want implants there and not a bridge. Ugh I HATE the dentist!!! Mostly because I had a bad experience with my old dentist, so now I'm afraid to get a new one. I'm afraid the new one will yell at me like my old one did.

ugh i know! the worst case scenarios have scared me away!  and they think it's FUNNY.

its interesting - i had a bad dentist too and that has ruined everything for me. not that i ENJOYED visiting the dentist, but i went every 6 mts. and then one mean dentist changed that. i did a lot of research before i visited a dentist in lancaster. so far (2 visits) i have enjoyed this dentist and assistant who 'specialize' in working with the fearful.

and thanks for the tip about the 'relaxing' pill. i totally need to research that.  my husband threatens to schedule the appt without me knowing, bc obviously it took me 14yrs to schedule a cleaning ... i wont be jumping at the chance to schedule a surgery. deep down (like, WAYYY deep down) i kinda secretly hope he does bc ill never go through with it.

but dont tell him that. :)

  • Actually, I would rather have my wisdom teeth out again versus getting novacane/fillings!! I just had my wisdom teeth out about a 1 1/2 yrs ago and it wasn't bad at all! I was put under and when I woke, I didn't feel anything, but drowsy. I should mention that my wisdom teeth weren't impacted, they just needed to be pulled.
