We sort of knew this was coming since the Arizona economy is so bad and it is estimated that over 50% of architects in the area are unemployed, but it is still rough. Yesterday he came home and said that he'd been asked to go on furlough for a month until they get another project going in the office. He's the only employee besides his bosses who own the company. So, while the prospect is there for him to start back up in a month, we're basically taking this as being laid off and he's moving forward with searching for new jobs. This might just be the catalyst we need to get back to the east coast.
Re: DH lost his job :-(
Right now the company that he is working for does a lot of schools and low income housing. At his last office their main client was for intergenerational day centers (Basically daycare centers where elderly AND children went. There were areas for both could spend time apart as well as areas that they could interact). He did some job searches earlier this week and found that there were a total of 3 jobs posted for the state of Arizona in the whole month of December. Apparently things are looking up back east in the DC area.
