How is everyone today? I am good, tired, I stayed up late waiting for the results of the MA election. I slept like a rock after that though.
Happy hump day!
Re: Good morning!
I slept pretty well last night since it was Patrick's turn to get up with Declan. After being sick his sleep schedule is all messed up!
MH did wake me up around 1AM though because I was coughing non-stop....but I was dreaming that I was coughing and didn't think I was actually doing it for real. LOL!
I'm quite well this morning, thank you. Not sure why - I slept better, so maybe that's it?
I realize it's a huge thing for the GOP to have gained back their leverage, but I for one am NOT looking forward to them pushing the healthcare discussion to a filibuster. IMO, that's the worst thing anyone can do for our nation... it's childish because nothing gets accomplished and NO progress is made FOR ANYONE. (I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the healthcare reform currently waiting the vote; I just see the filibuster as pointless because then NOTHING happens so it's essentially a waste of our tax dollars.)
Good morning. I'm neither great nor crappy. Just in between so can't really complain.
I was going to take David over to my MIL's this morning but when I was talking to my mom this morning she made a comment how mIL was coughing and had a runny nose yesterday. So I am now not taking him there, no matter how much she complains. She may have what he had last week but I don't want to chance it being something new.
Michelle,
you have all the information to get your taxes done? The only thing we have gotten so far is our mortgage interest.
Is it sad I'm excited to do our taxes when I get back from Mexico to see how Declan helps with a refund? LOL!
Oh it definitely helps. There are sometimes some Child credits (separate from their standard deduction) that some people are eligible for.
When I was in school my teacher used to joke that the best time to be be born in December 31st and January 1st to die. I know it sounds horrible but that's accounting humor at it's best. (Meaning you get a full year of deductions even though you were only alive for 1 day of the year).
Nope, not sad at all. I've never been so excited to do taxes. LOL
Morning...I'm doing ok this morning. Glad it's Wednesday and we are halfway through the week. I have a doctors appt tomorrow for bloodwork so I'm a little anxious for that.
I did my taxes last Friday. That's when the state taxes were available online. I don't have a kid to give me a nice refund but we are at least able to recoup Derick's tuition! It's always nice to get that back and this year we are actually able to get back what we paid in books which is a first. I guess there is something good from Obama after all.
I've heard that before...I've even heard of people have scheduled c-sections on the 31st just to get the tax credit!
This is so true! Also a lot of people schedule c-sections on the 31st so they don't have to start their health insurance deductable again.
The bank will send you a statement (forget what it's actually called) detailing your interest paid. And if you escrow your real estate taxes it will either be on that statement as well or you'll receive another one.
ETA: I am not by any means one of the tax experts on the board
Just thought I'd fill you in on what we've gotten since buying our house.
Your bank should send you a 1098-int for your mortgage interest. If you pay your real estate taxes through your mortgage company, there is a box on the 109-int that should show that amount. Also, be sure you send your accoutant a copy of the closing statement, she may need to make adjustments to your real estate tax deduction. Not sure how your county works but in cook county in IL, taxes are paid a year behind. So when you buy a house you get a credit from the seller for real estate taxes. You are responsible to pay the bill but the seller was in the house for the period you are paying for. Long story short, your accountant will know what to do.
If you pay the taxes on your own, you will need to find copies of the bills/canceled checks. Most counties do not send a separate statement detailing out your taxes paid, they assume you held on to the original billed assessment papers.
