Need a fresh start to something new

and something exciting...

when I run into people who I haven't seen in a few months and they ask how things are, I have NOTHING new to update them on...I feel like right now everything in my life is "good" but not noteworthy (which leads to a BORING conversation)

Why does life feel so bland and boring...

Re: Need a fresh start to something new

  • i know what you mean. lately when people ask me i just reply with "now that the holidays are over i'm ready for spring" or "we're working on some home improvement projects right now" .... people have to understand that there isn't always something exciting going on. but if you feel like the need for something new then try picking up a new project, goal, hobby or plan for a vacation or something in the near future to look forward to.
  • I'm kind of in the same rut 715!  I think part of it is that I don't have too many of my own friends down here still--I really don't interact with many people besides DH and my co-workers.  That's why i'm hoping our GTG on the 28th is a success!

Sometimes I wish I were quick and witty like some of you to be able to come up with a story in the heat of the moment to rattle off--even if its all totally made up.  But I'm just not--my stories tend to be boring and even the "good" ones tend to suck, I think.

I bet you all can't WAIT to meet me now--lol.  Wink  But I think most of my friends (I do tend to have friends that are the exact opposite of me--they could talk for hours) do think I'm an excellent listener!  Before I go into a situation where I know I'll have to speak, I usually try to think about it in advance and come up with a few topics that I feel comfortable speaking about.  I have a hair appt tonight, so I'm going to start my list soon!

This is too funny! I know what you mean about feeling like you should have something to talk about ahead of time!

I'm constantly thinking in my head about the meetings/people I might see during the day or the next day and trying to think of things to be sure to mention or to talk about if I need to sound chatty!

  • I know the feeling. Is there anything that you've been meaning to do that you've put off?  Join a sports team, take a class at a community center (quilting, pottery?), take a trip, a goal? I like to have a thing or two I'm working towards, though sometimes once someone asks what I've been up to and I've shared, I feel like a boob if I fail/don't follow through.
  • I understand! My sister and I are taking a Wilton cake course in February @ Michaels:-) I don't plan to open a bakery any time soon or anything Cake but thought it would be something fun!

Actually,  I do play on a soccer league (starts back the end of Feb), I have been working on a roman shade that I'm sewing, I am a part of a few organizations outside of work related to the whole energy improvement/education thing, and have a small group through church- but none of that seems noteworthy to me, just small little things- all things that I'm only mediocre at.

It's go big or go home for me to feel like I've accomplished something or have something to talk about.

Have we set a time for the GTG?
