Dumb things people say

What's the dumbest thing you have heard anyone say?

Re: Dumb things people say

  • Mine is more on the ignorant side, rather than dumb.  When I was at my IL's house this weekend my MIL made a comment about the Haiti earthquake.  Long story short, she made it seem like they derserved it because they don't go to church/believe in God.  All they care about is sex, sex, sex.  I sat there with my mouth agape.

I really, really wanted to go in an all out verbal brawl with this woman but I kept my mouth shut (mainly because I just go through arguing with her over our dog.  She hates our dog and wants us to get rid of it).

Really, there was a big earthquake from God because they don't go to church?  Has she ever been there to witness this herself?  NO!  Just because something doesn't happen in the all perfect country of Poland, doesn't mean that they are perfect.  These are human beings.  Who cares what they believe in.  She has been in church since she was born, I really don't think this is the message the Catholic church has been sending you. If it has, God help us all.  If Jesus was around today, he would be down there helping out, not judging them based on their church activity.  For goodness sakes, Jesus was Jewish, along with the all perfect Mary.

(getting off my soapbox now.  I have learned not to argue religion with my MIL.  She proably already thinks I have damaged DH's spiritual core).

I will have to think of a dumb thing someone has said, but as for the haiti issue I am Catholic and we just took up a collection for them last week at church and are doing another this week.  I also know there are catholic relief services there now so seems like she is just closed minded.  I would hate to have to argue with a close minded person.

  • Def. closed minded and set in her ways.  (I wasn't making fun of Catholics just noting that Jesus wasn't Christian, so she shouldn't be making judgements against those that aren't like her).

  • Melanie, I can believe she said that (not even aimed at her being Catholic) - I've heard similar things (not in this instance.)

I had thought this morning when I saw all that's going on in California followed by the announcement ANOTHER fairly large earthquake hit Haiti "Okay.. is this a sign of something bigger?! Sad"  But I didn't think it was aimed at the people of Haiti and wasn't aware all they thought about was sex, sex, sex.  Doesn't sound like such a bad place, if you ask me! LOL

I'll have to think specifically on dumb things people have said.  I know the general statements - my dad makes them ALL THE TIME about people of other races.  Confused

  • This is the first thing that came to my mind, I was watching the Tyra Banks show on Monday (please don't judge me, it was snowing, I was stuck inside) and it was saying that black is the new gay, discrimination wise and there was two panels. One woman said well it's not the same, people choose to be gay, they don't choose to be black. Really lady? They choose it? They choose to have a life that is much harder and have to face hate and discrimanation. I highly doubt that.

It blows my mind that someone would go on national TV and say that.  Granted, it's Tyra Banks, so you were prob the only one watching it.... Wink

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

I know I can just not understand the ignorance level of some people, now I know why I never watch that show. Your right I was probably the only one watching.

This reminds me of the dinner scene in The Family Stone.

I only stopped watching Tyra because all her topics seemed to be about one of two topics: race or her America's Top Model. LOL

  • I love that movie Paula, but I always feel soo sooo uncomfortable during that scene. It's like you know what she is trying to say, even though she is saying it poorly. I always just feel so bad for her.

Me too because I'm the same way... I'm surprised people haven't said "That's enough!" to me before. Embarrassed

  • I'm sure this won't make sense to most of you guys, but my boss said "We need to be more aware of our requests; _____ is a new business order...."  Basically chewing me out for giving our standard "You screwed up, fix it by doing this" speech (in nicer words) to some guy in our Schaumburg office.

Now that's not the dumbest thing she's ever said... except he made no comment when putting in his request so I don't know him from Adam or this request from any of the hundreds we get.  SHE might have more insight as to "our requests" because SHE'S the one in the conference calls all day but never talks to us about them, but then expects to know what goes on and is said during those calls. Confused
