DH talked to the guy who's supposed to be cutting our orders...like was supposed to get them to us months ago.  The one that has been NY-NY-NY for months now, that it was a sure thing.

Well, apparently its not.  To the point where it isn't happening.  I signed papers to sell our effing house on SATURDAY and two days later we may be staying here??? Why the eff couldn't they tell us this in October when he asked if we could stay in VA?  We didn't want to sell cuz the market sucks, we ASKED to stay here and were told no.  Now we're out $20,000, aren't necessarily leaving the area...and in about a month I'll be effing homeless if this house deal goes through. (There is a chance we could be going elsewhere in the country, but I don't know where or when cuz they won't effing tell us)

Yeah, we took a gamble putting the house on the market with no orders in hand.  But the market sucks.  Houses are sitting on it for months.  We knew we couldn't afford to float two mortgages...especially if I didn't have a job lined up for up there.

So frustrated.  Sick to my stomach really.  I'll get through it and find a place for the dog and I to stay in the area.  DH feels like crap cuz he knows this is flipping our lives upside down and I have to pick up the peices alone...and he knows how much I was looking forward to being closer family while we try and build our own.  We'll get through it and we'll be fine....and a part of me knows it comes with the territory...but GD I really want to rip whomever is pulling this craps balls off right now.

~Update: Have calmed down a bit now and am starting the process of apartment hunting.  Am having a helluva time finding a place who will let our *problem breed* mutt in though.  He's part german shepherd...but is the sweetest, most harmless guy ever.

Re: FML

  • wow.... dont even know what to say to that.  I would be beyond pisssed as well.  Is your house sale truly a done-deal?  Any chance of getting out of it?  Not sure if you really want to since you still dont have the orders...

Can you at least keep your current job so you dont have that on your plate anymore?  I think I remember you have already given them notice.

  • Oh yeah... and I 100% lied when I was looking for apartments about my dog.  She's a lab/rottwieler mix.  Most places wont let you have a rottwieler but I got my vet to put her down as a lab mix so that I wouldnt have to disclose it.

Thankfully I haven't said a single word to anyone at my work about selling the house...so yeah, I can keep my job.  For now.

The only way we're getting out of the house sale is if we fail the bldg inspection or bug/moisture inspection and the buyer wants out...or if it assesses for less than their offer.  To be honest, I'm not sure what I want to happen with that.  Given how unsure we are of where we'll be come June, probably just as well to have the sale over and done with.  At least then if we get sent to Timbuktu we are free to go.

Am looking for short term or month-to-month leases on apartments now.  Will also need a storage unit to deal with our housefull of furniture.

I may need to talk to my vet.  Problem is that his markings are all GS...but his size, build, temperment is 100% mutt.

  • Wow. That really sucks.  We're apartment hunting as well and although we don't have pets, it looks like it would be hard.  Everything around here is cats only if they allow pets.

I may have missed this but do they know when orders will be given?

  • Ay ay yay! When it rains, it pours, doesn't it?! I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I hate the whole "hurry up and wait" aspect. The fact that you were practically forced to sell your home without orders is absurd. Truly.

We're in a similar boat...well, minus the house part. Mike graduates his current training in 2 weeks and there's still no sign of orders. We only have 3 options, and each is just as likely as the next: Camp Pendleton (which is northern San Diego County), Camp Lejeune, NC, or Okinawa, Japan. We have a 2:3 chance of either moving cross country out internationally in TWO WEEKS and we still don't know. Crazy, just plain crazy! Mike says he not expecting orders until week after next.

Feel free to freak the eff out over here anytime. The only thing you can really do is figure out a way to make it work...after you scream your frustrations into a pillow, of course! Wink

Once they get within the 'window' of their stint at a given location they can start negotiating the move.  Longest DH could be on this ship is Sept, so we've been in our 'window' since last fall...and have been getting jerked around the entire time.  I guess all we really know is that he'll know in time to get himself there.

And OMG to them not telling you that you might have to move x-country or international in 2 WEEKS.  (Though FWIW, west coast or europe/japan are two possibilities for us too...unlikely...but still they could do it)

    Indifferent

I was freaking out about the fact that we are moving by the end of Feb. and don't have a place lined up.  And we're staying in the same area!

  • Sorry about the house and orders--that really stinks that you have no input or control.  Could the silver lining be that you at least feel a little bit of freedom from the house?  Is there any relief that you could go anywhere and you're not tethered to the property?
  • There is a little relief to be rid of the house...though honestly if we're staying in the area and starting a family (good chance we'll stay here) its a shame to walk away from it...especially when we're losing all we put into it.  On the plus side I guess is that if we stay in the area we can get a smaller house that is more convenient to our jobs.  Right now his commute is an hour, we could move closer to his work and I could go work out a satellite office my company just opened near his work.

I do like the flexibility of being able to up and go when we find out.

Oh & I'm not sure if I mentioned this previously, but along with effing us on the orders...they are also potentially effing us on when he comes back.  May be till September now and not June.

Am getting a reality check with the apt hunting, had hoped we could rent and avoid this selling fiasco next time.  For the cost of what we'd need for our furniture and ourselves we'd be paying more in rent than we would a mortgage.  Especially when you factor in the dog and all the extra rental fees for that.

  • Yeah, the awful part is if you end up staying in the area, you've dealt with a lot of logistics for nothing.  But the plus side is that you have a lot more flexibility now and you can make some choices to make your lives easier.

Is it a possibility to downsize on your belongings?  It sounds like that's one of the hardest logisitical parts you're facing.

  • We could downsize some.  For example: DH has finally seen the light that we don't NEED 3 queen sized beds (yes, I tried to enlighten him before we got them) and we've had a POD for 4 months now and missed very little of the 'stuff' in it.

I can deal with storing stuff, no biggie.  We have an account with PODS and I've told DH that I'll be hiring movers (no real friends/family around).  Its the housing situation thats an issue.

  • I am sorry!  That sucks!  I'm afraid I have no great other wisdom or advice to offer you, just sympathy.  Good luck to you!
  • Wow, this totally sucks. I feel so bad for you guys. What BS!

I know for a fact that renting in your area is super expensive, I really do feel for you guys. My DH finally just found us a house there that is costing us upwards of $1700/month rent. BLAH. So, so, so sorry :(

  • Scoped out stuff today.  Looks like for a 1br I'm talking $1000/month since I'll need a short term lease (<6 months).  PLUS there will be additional charges for having the dog.  PLUS paying for storage for the rest of our stuff

Good news is that I visited a place today that is certainly livable.   And they are fine with any breed or size of dog.  I like that.
