Random Quickie-Clicky Poll

How do you say the current year?  Is it two-thousand-ten, two-thousand-and-ten, or twenty-ten?  I hear it pronounced all ways and it's driving me nuts that everyone doesn't say it the same way!!!

Thank you for indulging me in my random poll!  Big Smile  Feel free to add your two cents on why you say it the way you do.

Re: Random Quickie-Clicky Poll

  • I've been saying twenty-ten because that's how the Olympics have been advertised for the last, oh I don't know, whenever it was that Vancouver got the bid for the Olympics.  Maybe that's just a Vancouver thing?
  • Two-thousand-ten. Just because that's the grammatically correct way (or at least I think it is...right?). Stick out tongue
  • I answered two thousand and ten, but realized after that I also say twenty ten because of the olypics too.
  • I have been waiting for this year so people will finally (hopefully!) start saying twenty-ten!  You're right, two-thousand-whatever IS more grammatically correct, but it seems strange to me when saying a year.  We never said "one thousand, nine hundred, ninety-nine, did we?  No, we said nineteen ninety-nine.  I understood why we said two-thousand for the past ten years (twenty-oh-nine is a bit weird), but I'm trying to get people to say "twenty-ten" now!  :)

  • I say two-thousand-ten but I'm sure I'll graduate to saying "twenty" eventually.  I'm so used to saying two-thousand-_______, I'll have to kick the habit!

I never say "and" between the numbers because it's not grammatically correct.  Lisa - grammar nerds unite!

  • out loud I say (and voted for) two thousand ten, like when I call someone to remind them of a meeting or something.

In my head I think twenty-ten just to help me remember what to write on checks and forms.

  • I do not utter the words. I need a special snowflake.
