The wife of one of the people in my dept is throwing him a surprise birthday party and invited all of us (including spouses). I can't decide whether to go or not. We've been coworkers for many years, but now I'm the dept head (& his boss). We did go to each others weddings, but again, that was before I was promoted. We are all friendly and get along very well, but do not spend time together outside of work.
DH does NOT want to go and he doesn't think I should go either - he doesn't think it's smart to mix business with personal lives, especially now that these guys are my employees.
Another person in my dept (I'm also her boss) is going.
I can't decide if I should:
1) Not go, but give the other person a bottle of wine to take to the party from me
2) Go by myself.
3) Drag DH and stay for only an hour or two.
The party is at a sporting event in a party suite. I know I'm overthinking this - I always do with the stupidest stuff. Advice, please!
Re: Work Advice
If you went to each other's weddings, why not a group party at a public place, even if you are his boss now?
If you don't want to go, that is totally up to you, but I would send along a little gift.
