Some people shouldn't have kids part 2

Re: Some people shouldn't have kids part 2

  • I think that is ridiculous.  But people are strange when it comes to naming their children.  I went to school with a girl named Kelly Kelley... I mean, really? really?  That is all you can think up?

  • That's absurd.  I don't even know what to say other than that is completely ridiculous and I feel so sorry for those kids.
  • I guess i better go see that movie so when I call attendance in 5 yrs in class I won't get it wrong. lol

  • Conan was joking about this a few days ago, saying he named his kids R2D2 and Chewbacca.
  • And I read somewhere that one of the up and coming baby names was Cullen, like from Twilight. Maybe if I had seen the movies I would understand it better... but as of now um... I don't get it.
  • Wow. Seriously? The movie wasn't even that good!

My dad always jokes about wanting to name me "Falling" and my brother "Plymouth" because my maiden name is Rock. He was never serious, though!

  • I work for a peds hospital, and see some strange ones. Either wierd spellings, or boys with names that will get them beat up. The trend seems to be old fashioned names. A fave of mine right now is Vernon. It's so funny to see a small child with an old man name!

Funny you mention - one of the top 100 baby name lists I've looked at not only lists names, but also tracks whether they're rising or falling in popularity.  I was amused to find that all the main character's names were on the list, rising in popularity, and names like "Esme" have a special distinction for not being on the list the year before.

  • I have real problems with people that try to get too creative with naming their kids - although in all honesty, I usually think it's cute and come around to it. One of my family members named their son Zander - full name: Aleczander. I'm like, okay, Zander is cute...but couldn't the spelling Alexander have worked too. I mean x has a z sound.

I just ran across someone on FB that named their daughter Indiana. Her last name is Jones. I was like OMG, no they didn't! I think they call her Indie.

LOL! Conan's kids' names are Neve and Beckett (daughter and son, respectively), by the way. Some of his staff, including his nanny, were my clients when they were still in NY. Yet another reason I'm upset that Conan's getting the shaft. I miss those kids! They are sweet and adorable, and his son is actually very shy (believe it or not!)

  • First, woo hoo for KSDK!  I live in St. Louis. :)

Second, I also heard the C3PO and Chewey joke on Conan.... I hoped he was kidding about Avitar names.  I guess he wasn't.

How is this happening so quickly?!  The movie has only been out for a few weeks... what women are going to movies when they're 8-months-pregnant?!

What, Coco was one of your clients??? What do you do again?

  • I don't see a problem with it. I mean sure, it's kinda silly to want to name your child after a popular movie at the time, but a lot of parents get names from movies, songwriters, other cultures, etc. If they like the name, then they like the name. I don't think we should criticize anyone's choice of what to name their kids (IMO, those names aren't too crazy, my mom once had an Abcde (absede they said it was pronounced) in the ER she works at, now thats a weird one). I wouldn't put this on the same level of leaving your infant in a restaurant unattended while you rescue your coffee from being spilled. I think it's important to remember that your child has to live with the name forever, so unless its a name like Hitler, I don't see a problem in naming them after a famous person, or movie character.
  • The weirdest name I ever saw on a kid was Le-A. You think its Leah right? Wrong its "Le dash a" haha crazy!
