FB what do you do?

what do you do when a friend of one of your friends on FB makes an asinine comment?  just ignore it?  it's so difficult to do, but i think i should probably just let it slide...

Re: FB what do you do?

  • I try to imagine what I would do if I were at a party at my friend's house and talking to this other commenter in person. If it's something that I'd still say to someone's face, I'll post a comment. There are a lot of things I'll be snarky or brutally blunt about with strangers on the Internet, but not so much with people whose names and faces I know or a friend knows!

That said, the last time I encountered this, my friend told me "that guy's kind of a wad, I barely know him," so I let him have it! :)

  • I'd delete it.
  • I guess it depends on what kind of comment it was.  If it was totally out of bounds I would probably say something but I would also probably say something to them in person as well.  I would try not singeling them out per se but I would comment on the issue.  If it was a constant thing I would say something to my friend about it privately.
  • It depends on what kind of comment it was and where it was. If it occurs on their page and I see it through my news feed, most of the time I'll just ignore it. If it's really bad (racist, sexist, or really ignorant in general), I'll defriend them if they're an acquaintance or hide them. (Harsh, maybe, but I really hate that kind of talk.) If it was on my page, I'd send them a private message and then delete the comment.

  • I've sent a very blunt "your assinine comment verifys that I can no longer be aquaintances in real life or friends on facebook... just wanted to let you know that I think you should re-evaulate blah blah blah...."
  • If its their status then I ignore it.  I'll delete any comments on my page or pictures than I don't like.

  • it was just someone's comment to a friend's status.  i don't know the person who commented.  i did respond, and he typed back, "exactly!"  i have no idea what that could possibly mean, so i've given up and marked him down as an idiot.  i've never seen him before and don't know him, so i guess in this case, i'll just ignore.  it was about immigrants.
