I <3 consignment shops for baby stuff!

Score of the day?  A $50 activity mat for $12...brand new in it's package!  And I picked up the "Happiest Baby on the Block" DVD for $8.  I got a couple of cotton sleepers, an Amy Coe knit hat and matching booties, several board books, and another knit hat embellished with ribbons...all for $35!

Re: I <3 consignment shops for baby stuff!

  • Score!!! I love them too! So far I've found four within 10 miles from my house. We've only bought a few things that weren't from a consignment shop!
  • I love them too but the problem now is there's not many clothes in the 6-12 month range. I've checked 3 different stores too. They all say that it's common that they have tons of clothes up to size 6 months then it fades off until around size 5 or so, what will I do in the range they don't have?? I've posted on CL with some response and plan to buy stuff at garage sales this summer. So if you see anything in those 6-12 month ranges at a good price, buy them now! :)

That's weird.  Do you think it's because folks are hanging onto things for baby #2 or #3 or giving them to friends/family?  I can see why the smaller sizes are prolific...everyone gives clothes as presents!  There's no way one baby can wear them all!  LOL!

That said, I have not noticed that issue here at all with the sizes dropping off...in fact I had to restrain myself from getting some cute 12 mo. holiday dresses today because I have no idea with Libby will be about that size or not by next Christmas.

Do you have a Just Between Friends sale near you?

    I think you might: http://milwaukeecounty.jbfsale.com/

If you go, sign-up for first time mommies and you'll get in early, for free, and have the best pick!

They have EVERYTHING and lots of it!  That said, if there's anything you're specifically looking for, let me know, and I'll keep an eye out for you!

  • Hmm. That's weird about the 6 months size... They have a ton in that size at the consignment store near me. I just got two new footed sleepers in 6-9 mo size for daycare.

Lori - GREAT deals!!! Esp on the DVD and activity mat! Impressive! If you are ever back in the DC area, let me know and I'll take you to the fabulous consignment store that I go to!

  • Score! I really need to see if we have some consignment stores out here with baby stuff. The one we did have was over priced and finally shut down.

Let me know if you find one.  I saw there were a few in the Aiea/Pearl City area, but I never go out there to check them out.

I checked one out on Kauai and was really disappointed.  Limited stock and overpriced -- I could buy brand new for less at Ross!

I'm going to try Savers later this week...

  • Great score! Man, I really wish we had one of those in my area. Sad
  • Thanks for that info Lori!! I'll be checking out that event for sure!

Yeah I'm not sure why things drop off here for those sizes, they just do. It's a bummer because I love buying used. No reason to pay full price really!

For those that don't have consignments near, I highly recommend doing a CL post in the baby area saying WTB: XYZ. WTB= wanted to buy. Many people search for this when they have things to sell. I put on there WTB: Bumbo seat and scored one for $12 awhile back. I also did that for baby clothes and went to a ladies house to dig through her stuff. I found a few things but it was worth it for sure.
