Did any of you register for fancy china for the wedding?
This is my pattern http://www.lenox.com/guidedNav/index.cfm?navBase=1000&refine=&disppattern=0&keywords=chirp&sortType=&No=0
Looks like they have my plate settings on sale! Usualyl they are $143 at Macys and BB&B carries them for around $99, so at $85 I can get 2 more settings for a little more then what 1 would cost not on sale.
So here is my question. How many settings do you have? Right now I have 4. I also have 8 dessert plates, I have all the serve ware, Dont have the new S&P shakers, or any of the other cute new stuff...I also have like a bazzillion of the wine glasses, white and red.
So yeah, just wondering what everyone else has "fine china" wise.
Re: Question about China...like plates, not the country ;)
I have this set.
I have 8 sets each including:
Dinner plate
Salad plate
Dessert plate
Tea cup/saucer
Coffee cup
I also have a serving plate and bowl of the same pattern.
I have that same china!!! I use them for my everyday pdishes, and have eight settings. FWIW they are AWESOME everyday dishes. I put them in the microwave and dishwasher and they have held up great. Much more sturdy than most "formal" china, and just as good as our old dishes. I don't have all the serving pieces. I have the "dish it out" set (I think, all bowls), but other than that I use plain white serving dishes.
For formal china, I have my grandmother's Noritake and I have 12 settings of that. I actually have the WHOLE set, all the serving dishes and everything. We pretty much just use them on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Valentine's Day. I am trying to think what is in the formal placesetting, dinner plate, salad plate, bread plate, soup bowl, berry bowl, tea cup, saucer. I am pretty sure that's it.
I also registered for a Lenox setting
We have 5 sets so far, the S&P shakers, and practically all of the stemware. As far as the china settings, we keep an eye out for really good deals on them (It's usually priced around $115/set, and sometimes Macy's has them for like $70/set (rare though)). We haven't bought any ourselves (the 5 were all gifts), but do want to eventually get at least 8 sets. Ours is a pretty popular pattern, so I'm hopeful they don't discontinue it anytime soon. We'll probably pick up sets here and there as gifts to ourselves when we can.
It seems like that's a good deal on your china pattern! I say go for it if you're interested in buying them now. We did something similar with our flatware--Macy's had them on sale awhile ago for buy 2 (50% off), get one free, so we basically got 3 sets for the price of one.
ETA:
NO WAY DANI!!!! So does IMShell on the PHX board!!!
Then you would be interested in this info I shared with her the other day. Marshells Home Goods at Desert Ridge has the Chirp vases and stackable bowls and all these cute picture frames for like WAY CHEAP!
I think I am going to buy 2 sets. That way I will at least have 6 which is how many chairs we have for the dinning room table. I would like to have 12 eventually. But I think 6 could make me happy.
That's so funny!!! Popular pattern for PHX!!!
I agree that 12 is the perfect number for formal dinners.
Ha! With 3 kids... we are sooo not formal, so no china for moi! Although... I LOVE all of the sets you gals have! Very pretty!
I'd prob be more like Veruca's or Desi's style... We only have everyday dishes that were discontinued in BBB.
hahah we posted the same thing!
I just looked on ebay and they are selling place settings for more thenthey are on lenox! So I am going to buy 2 now. At least that way I can set a full table of 6...and then work up to 12
We don't have formal china now. (We have awesome John Deere everyday stuff tho!)
With my first marriage, we had formal china - we got 12 sets. Worked out great for hosting holiday meals.
Looks like a great deal - I'd get the 2 sets now, and build up to 12 when you can.
Since I already have 3 sets of hand-me-down formal china we didnt register for any but this is the set that I would have chosen if we did. I love love love it. I used to work in the bridal registry department at Macy's and we usually said that 8 was a good median number thinking along the lines that the world is designed for families of 4.
I have an obsession china and I miss working with it every day......
and I did nothing to answer your question....
I'd shoot for a set of 10, at least. Whenever we have IL's over, there are 5 of us and then another set of 4, so we'd need 9 settings. How many do you usually have over when you have your parties? or family events? or ...
Karrey I would KILL for 3 sets of formal china!!!!!! I am pretty obsessed as well and secretly want to start working on building up another pattern...Shhhh dont tell DH!
Lore....usually when we have people over we use our every day plates as we HAD 8, but I broke 2 in the move
I dont totally love them, but DH picked them out, so what ever...
This valentines dinner I am planning is really our very first formal hoseted dinner. Like I plan on having asigned place settings and cloth napkins and possibly even make up menus and stuff
Usually any other dinenr party it is much more casual....and im not affraid to use the "fancy" paper plates if I have to...but yeah. I need FANCY!
I JUST ORDERED TWO SETS! ::Dose happy dance::
Opal Innocence?? That's my pattern =D
DH and I registered for 12 sets so we would have enough if we hosted a holiday with our families. We only got 2 and found an awesome sale right after our wedding with the china marked 50% off and a mail in rebate for $20 (I think...this was a while ago). It made the sets super cheap, so we bought 4 more.
So we have 6 sets which include plate, salad plate, bread plate (wth, I'd rather have a bowl), saucer, and cup. We also have formal Reed and Barton flatware, Lenox Opal Innocence napkins, and lenox crystal wine glasses.
We didn't get any of the server ware, but I would like one of the large platters and 2 bowls.
HA!!! You and BBB have me looking for more! Mine were boring Jasper Biscuit Colored plain things. I've been searching for a few more mugs (of course-out of stock...).
We registered for this: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=105376&RN=2349
We have 10 5-piece place settings, a couple soup bowls, the cream & sugar bowls, and one serving bowl. I really want the covered vegetable dish, but it's sooo expensive.
ETA: We registered for 12 place settings, and my mom usually gives me one for Christmas and birthday so I'll be up to 12 soon.
Karrey...just looked, no Lenox outlet by me
wah wah
Flip flops! I love yours, super simple. I actually have some plates like that that I plan to mix in with mine at dinner so it will all come together.
Woohoo Opal Innocence. I love the pattern so much!
Me three!
I've loved it for years, but seriously considered another pattern once we got engaged instead until my instincts told me to just go with the Opal Innocence. Good think DH liked it too.
We register for it at Macy's. This is the link http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=381847&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results
At the time it was one of the most expensive sets. DH did that on purpose because he was hoping no one would buy it for us but a month before the wedding it went half off so needless to say we got every single piece down to the butter dish.
