Why do ppl still do this?
Just got something in the mail for BIL's wedding.
Mr & Mrs Grant D***?
Do I look like Mrs Grant D***? No, I look like Mrs Courtney D***!
Sidenote: I may be extra annoyed by anything related to this wedding but this is a little peeve of mine!
Re: Why do ppl still do this?
Because that's the proper formal way to address them?
Sorry your extra annoyed at the wedding, but it never bothers me to be called Mrs. Benjamin W
I just don't like when ppl drop the woman's first name. It doesn't make sense to me...
They should just write Mr. and Mrs. D***....
Glad it's not just me!
It just seems like something that is so old-fashioned that I figured we would be over by now...
For formal invitations you should always address it that way. On the inside you can personalize.
I'm sorry but as far as I'm concerned it is just proper etiquette. Now as far as the birthday card to Ashley, that's wrong!
I should've mentioned...it wasn't a wedding invitation. Just a wedding-related mail out for the BP.
I get that ppl consider it "proper etiquette" for invitations but I guess my question is...why is it still considered proper etiquette? It seems rude to me but maybe I am just so far from traditional I have trouble wrapping my head around such things. =(
I actually got a kick out of it when we got our first Congratulations on your Wedding card in the mail, and it came addressed as "Mr. and Mrs. Ted R..."
Hahaha. I can see your point. After a while I may be like "Hey! What about me?!" But... right now, it's still so new, I'm really enjoying it
now this is not okay! i don't mind it for weddings. it make me warm and fuzzy! i feel like that is the only time that i get to see mr. and mrs. jake w.
I feel the same way you do - etiquette or not!
I'm not changing my name when we get married, so I am getting ready for being completely annoyed to get things addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Fix - which are FI's parents. I may be hypersensitive, but I always check to see what a woman's name is after the wedding (same, different, hypenated, etc.), so I would like the same.
Guess it could be worse - a friend got an invite to a baby shower for someone that was groomsman in her wedding that was addressed to her husband and her non-married name - even though they knew her proper name and have used it in the past.
It totally seems antiquated, IMO. I took his last name, I didn't lose my first name.
This doesn't really bother me....
but I don't see why it's considered proper etiquette & should "always" be written this way on formal invitations. I think that's nonsense. It's 2010.
I agree with Jenni. Seeing as things have come a looooong way since this was established as proper etiquette, I think just plain old "Mrs & Mrs. A" will work just fine nowadays!
My Planning Bio! Married Photos! My Blog!
I actually like it. Not like I'm his "property" or something dumb, I think almost everyone is beyond that, but like Marelina said it's the only time I see it/hear it and I like it. Maybe I just don't care enough to be bothered about it.
Does anyone remember when the P&E girls FREAKED out about this topic?
This. I address everything this way. Four years of business school will do that to you. I still put two spaces in between the state and zip too even though Word loves to underline that in red.
100% agree
I think it's outdated.
I don't get as riled up as I used to but I still notice it and roll my eyes.
My name isn't Mrs. Steven C. I don't respond to that.
I refused to address my wedding invites that way. On my invites it was Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane X.
However, I know my grandmother would be deeply offended if she was NOT addressed as Mrs. Dr. Myron P.
But she's 57 years older than I am
