I've seen on other boards (I don't think I've seen it on this one) where someone will post a service or whatever (like the REA below) and others get so angry. They're hateful over it sometimes and I don't really get why. I understand it's against the rules but I'm sure that's not what bugs people. Is it just bc they don't want it to become a total solicitation board? My personal opinion is that if you have something to offer someone this is a good place for it. Why do you guys think it makes others so mad?
(CrazyNLove, this isn't bc of your post. That just reminded me of another one I saw. I'm not trying to get people to say hateful things about your post or anything. I think that's a great deal!)
Re: Why do some people get so mad?
I get really annoyed when it's a stranger just popping in to advertise, and I'm glad it's against the rules.
However, when I see it from girls we know, I'm more happy for them than anything. CrazyNLove is a regular poster and someone who we mostly all will recognize. Also, I know she's a Realtor from conversations in posts, not from her advertising. The same way I know Tanya and Carisa are Realtors (and I'm sure I'm forgetting someone...) - it comes up in conversations with them! Just like I'd hope my IRL friends would feel comfortable telling me, "Oh by the way, I've got a special, it'd be a great month to buy ___" I don't mind at all posts like CrazyNLoves because I want to (a) support local women and businesses and (b) always love a good deal!
I think there are a few factors.
Like pp mentioned, if it's just a drive-by post and not somone who frequents the board, it's like spam. I think that's rude bc they are using this as a promotional forum without having contributed anywhere else on the board or participating in conversations.
Also, there have been "regulars" kicked off the boards for mentioning their businesses. It doesn't seem fair that someone who contributes to the board is disciplined while a vendor can make a profile and get free advertisement.
I had another point, but I'm watching American Idol now. I guess my point is just that I'd like to support forum participants, but I think it's rude to just take advantage of an open forum. If that were the case, advertisements would take over the board.
I know we had one post on here not too long ago that was expressly a solicitation. I was the first to respond to her, but I do hope that I wasn't ugly to her. I just know that The Nest has some serious rules and I've seen too many Austin Nesties with businesses get into some trouble with just thier company names in their signatures. I didn't want the other woman to get in trouble either.
Anyway, I agree that there is no reason to be mean to someone on here, but since the Internet is anonymous, some people think that it's ok to say anything that want to, regardless of how tactless or rude it may be.
Ditto. This exactly.
