Which dyson do you have?

I am pretty sure we are finally getting a dyson.  We are on the 3rd vacuum since being married(5 years).  They just lose suction and we know there should be more Morgan hair in the canister.  We went to sears and I tried out the dc14 and dc 24?  The 14 is just a regular vacuum and according to the dyson website has more suction power.  I really didn't like the ball one.  It just felt weird but probably b/c i'm not used to it.  I'll take any recs.

Re: Which dyson do you have?

  • We have the D14 and love it. We have had it for 4 years and it's the best. We did end up buying the pet hair attachment later on, but got if off ebay for like $5. It makes doing the furniture a breeze. HTH
  • I have the basic one...the yellow one. I love it although I think we bought a defunked one because it's always had an issue. I'm going to try to get it fixed and then if I can't I'm getting a new one.

But I do love them. Cleans soooo well! This was years ago but my nephew threw up on my carpet. I cleaned it up , well after my brother clean up the vomit...I don't do that. hahaha. But I finished the job, soaking, scrubbing etc. It finally looked clean.

Months later we got the Dyson and I cleaned that rug....guess what it pulled up? Yup....pink flecks of his vomit. I was so grossed out and will never ever not use a Dyson.

  • I have the dc24 or 25.. I forget which.. whichever one is slightly bigger.. And its a ball one.. I love how its small and light.. but its currently not working properly. I have to take it to get fixed..

Get an animal one with the attachments..

  • I have the Kenmore Progressive. I've had it for 2 or 3 years and haven't lost any suction. It's CR rated higher than the Dyson and half the price.

  • We have the 14....it has the same motor as the animal, just doesn't have the extra attachments. I love it, however it does not pick up (dog hair) well on Berber. I hate Berber anyways and we will soon be getting new plush carpet!
  • I have the basic yellow one- I think it's the "all floors" model.  I love it- we've had it for 5 years and it's still going strong.
  • I want a dyson so bad! I even asked for one for Christmas, but didn't get one :( Maybe for my birthday?!

I would get the animal, if I bought one.

Same here- love it and no issues in over 5 years.

  • I have the animal and I love it.  All I have to compare it to was a cheapy $75 one, though.
  • We have the ball one.  No issues in a year and a half or so.  Check out amazon.com for refurbished ones.  They come with the same warranty, just lots cheaper.  We got ours for 139.

  • We have the older model Animal with the ball.  We bought the floor model at BBB when they were switching to the new one, and got it on mega sale, plus %10 off for being the last one, and the 20% off coupon.  Best.deal.ever.

Some of my friends have purchased refurbished ones off woot.com and love them as well.

I really like the ball.  It makes the vacuum feel less bulky to me, and I can control it better.  It might take some getting used to, but it's my favorite part about the Dysons.

  • We have the Dyson Animal and LOVE IT!  I believe its the one made for pet hair.  I have long hair and two dogs who shed.  Before the Dyson we had to buy a new vacuum every year and now as long as we keep the roller clear its amazing!  I highly recommend it!

  • We have the Animal (not the ball Animal) -- I'm not sure what the model # is.  It has great suction, but I've had some problems with it.  I need to take it for repair somewhere, not sure where...
  • What is so different about the animal? The suction for the animal is 225 compared to 250 for the basic one and the yellow one has a larger bin.  We have a central vac system in the house so I already have all the tools to clean furniture.  It just is horrible on carpet.
  • I think the attachments are different on the Animal vs. Regular.

FWIW (in regards to a pp), pretty much the only reason Consumer Reports doesn't like the Dyson is the price, not the quality, and there are ways to get deals on them, so I wouldn't worry about that.  It sounds like you're already sold on the brand, and just deciding between models.
