Flannel or not to flannel?

So since I've been sick all week *ugh*, I have discovered that my new favorite thing are the grey flannel sheets we got for the wedding. It seems like people feel pretty strongly about them one way or the other (DH will humor me and use them, but only with a non-flannel pillow case). One friend said that he won't touch them because they don't allow for "cold spots". I say, if you get hot, stick a leg out! What do you think?

What's your favorite sick-time remedy?

Re: Flannel or not to flannel?

  • I don't have any...but our cold month cycle is short. We're much more concerned about cool sheets. And I get really hot at night.

  • I think if you like them and your DH doesn't care then go for it! We have some jersey sheets that I love because they are so soft, but DH hates them because they make him sweat so I never put them on the bed.

I have been sick for a week with the flu and it sucks! I am wearing my favorite sweat pants that I bought to get ready for the wedding in (to go with my Bride hoodie) and they are all I want to have on since I've been sick. DH has been sweet enough to keep washing them for me so I can wear them. Other then that, mashed potatoes. It is the only thing I will eat when I am sick. Even if I have a stomach bug...I don't know why but they make me feel better and settle my stomach!

  • Hard to say.  I'm fairly sensitive to tactile stuff.  My DH laughs at me whenever we go to a bedding or bath department, I feel a need to touch the various towels/bedding.  Too often a really cool comforter or pretty shiny sheets will feel like straw or will be too stiff (...or whatever).  It has to pass the 'touch test.'

I've had flannel sheets in the past that I like, but when it comes to warm, I'm more of a comforter girl. Yay for down.

And your other question: My remedy for a cold is sofa+tv+comfort food.

  • A friend just told me to become a fan of "ShitMyDadSays" on facebook. Apparently it's a page belonging to the 74 year old man's son, who posts one funny thing his dad says per day. I LOVE his attitude! *warning, he swears a lot if you're opposed to that sort of thing*

  • I grew up on flannel...and then my grandfather gifted us some fleece sheets from Canada! EEK! Are those things wonderful!

Now that I've moved from WAAAAAY northern Vermont to the mid-Atlantic, I find myself not needing heavy bedding like that (it helps that the DH is like a human space heater), so I stick to jersey sheets year round with a fleece blanket and the quilt my mom's friend made us as a wedding gift (before that it was just a down comforter and the sheets).

But...to answer your original question, I like the comforter I used all through college when I don't feel good. It is the perfect weight and has held up really well over the years! I just use that and lay on the couch and watch movies all day.

And I LOVE ShitMyDadSays!! The guy also tweets if you are a twitter fan.

  • We LOVE Beech sheets, they are kind of like Jersey, but not exactly the same. They are so comfortable & they keep warm in winter and cool in summer so they are perfect! We had 2 sets already and got 2 more for the wedding!! :)
  • I love flannel sheets but hubby is seriously exothermic when he sleeps so I can't use them or I'd get much too warm.  I don't even use my down comforter that I have had for years and LOVE unless Hubby is traveling for work.  Plus - he's one of those obnoxiously close sleepers which I've come to terms with but don't particularly enjoy so i stay plenty warm without any extra help.
  • I sleep nekkid, while DH prefers not to, so I get to pick the sheets. It's flannel, all them way, then a high-count cotton when it warms up. I feel like I'm sleeping in one of his shirts!

"Obnoxiously close"? Like he's practically on you all night? that would drive me BATTY! Glad you've come to term with it. Smile

Indeed!  He should be the poster boy for body pillow use.  If I get out of bed in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, he will pull my two pillows under his arm and knee and snuggle up with that instead.  He's not consciously aware of it but if I get too warm and push him over, he gets very disgruntled (and then claims to have no knowledge of it in the morning!)
