I saw this one and wanted to hear the Upstate NY perspective. On the ML board there was a good mix of school, work, etc. I'm curious if it's the same trend here.
I went to high school in Syracuse and moved to Buffalo after college. My closest friends are from HS, and don't live nearby. It feels like most of the people I meet in Buffalo are still very tight with their highschool friends. Is this an Upstate NY phenomenon, or just an artifact of being 6 years out of HS?

My BFF is from highschool, although we didn't become really close until college. 2 of my other close friends are also from highschool.
I have a group of girlfriends that I worked w/ at my previous job. None of us still work there, but we have remained friends.
I also have a few girlfriends who are SO's of DH friends
I didn't remain close with anyone from HS really, but that is because I spent every waking second at the barn--I am close with all my riding buddies, though.
My local bff I actually met on the knot.
My other bff's are from college, we speak weekly, but only see each other every few months because they are not local.
I am best friends with Tiffgoddess and the other two she mentionned. We are a very close group of four best friends. Other friends are through my husband or work. I have met quite few nice ladies on here.
For the most part, I had no desire to stay in touch with people from high school. However, my three best friends are all friends that I have had forever (one since we were 4 years old, one since 5th grade, and one since 7th grade). Other than that, I don't talk to anyone from high school.
Besides those three, my other good friends are rugby teammates or people I met in grad school.

I have a couple friends i see somewhat regularly from HS.. and one from college.. And I have a few close work friends.. The rest are all nesties

I don't talk to many of my bff's from high school, mostly because they moved and i moved so it made it hard.
I met some friends here and my bff i met in college. Other than that, most of the other girls/couples we hang with are our business networks that we have become so close with, which i just love.
I have a handful of bffs from all stages of my life - my three bffs from high school who are still back where we grew up in OH, my college bffs who are in Cincinnati and Chicago, and the girlfriends I made after moving to where DH and I last lived. Two of them are the wives of DH's high school friends, and the others I met on the knot/nest.
Here in NY I've met some of you girls, and the wives of some of DH's coworkers. I'm kind of in the market for friends right now, LOL!

My friends in buffalo are all nesties. I consider the girls to be my closest friends and I probably know more about them and their children than I do my older friends. I have a couple friends from HS and college that I try to keep in touch with but it's hard with life and the fact we don't live anywhere near each other.
My 4 best friends are all from HS but we didnt become best friends til college.....
I have one other really close friend who I used to teach with....
And one or two who are coworkers at the bar I work at....
I havent had the pleasure of meeting anyone from the Nest yet!
I still have a couple friends from high school. We typically get together around the holiday's since many of them have moved away since college.

I am 25 years old, grew up around Ithaca and moved to Buffalo last year. Most people I know here are SO close with their high school friends!
I think it is because Buffalo has a bunch of colleges so maybe people just stay closer to home and keep with the same crowd the whole time.
Most of my friends are from college but we all live in different areas so I probably only see each one a few times a year. I do have a couple of best friends from high school, but again we all live in different areas.
Thanks everyone for sharing. Sounds like it isn't just Buffalo with the closeness to HS friends.
In case you didn't guess the underlying motive for my post... I'm "in the market" for friends. I met a few people through work, but no one that I really enjoy hanging out with. My husband pointed out to me that I talk more to him about posts on the Nest than I do about what's going on with people I know in real life.
I'll be sure to make it to the next Buffalo GTG!
I agree with you about Buffalo people being really close with their high school friends. That is my DH and also one of my bff's from college. Describes them to a T.
My bff from back home I met in 1st grade and we've been best buds ever since! I only stay in touch with a couple other of my high school friends, which makes me sad because we were a really close big group of girls. Since joining facebook I've reconnected with a few of them.All of my other bff's are from college. All of them are spread out all over the country except for one. I miss them so much!
Then since moving to Buffalo 5 years ago I have a group of DH's friends SO, which I have become pretty close with which are all local ladies! The only local friends I have that I've made on my own are my nesties!
