ugh - my poor sister!!

I couldn't sleep last night I was worried about her! She is a supervisor at Kohls. Not her dream job of course, but she's always had tough luck no matter how hard she works (with school, applying for jobs, etc). Because she doesn't get paid much, and her health insurance through work isn't affordable, she has been going without. Well - she broke her elbow last week falling on the ice. She didn't even go to the Dr. for 5 days b/c of the no insurance thing. When she went, she found out it was broken and they told her to make an apt. with her regular dr (she was at a clinic or something). She found out that she needs surgery - with NO INSURANCE!! I just wish she could catch a break here and there, and I don't know how she's going to handle this financially. If I wasn't married I'd be paying whatever I can, but I'll have to discuss with the DH about this, and he really wants to focus on saving this year...

wow - that's sad and scary! Hopefully the doctors will accept whatever insurance would have paid.... that's what many do here in NY. Have her ask them...

your poor sister. vibes she gets better soon. this happen to DH's BFF, but with his ankle. he told his doctor and surgeon that he had no insurance. they helped him find the best option and get medical assistant. he got a loan with no interest through them! have her talk to her doctors.

Thank you all for your concern! I've been in training all day so haven't been able to get on earlier. Unfortunately, she doesn't qualify for whatever assistance she was looking into because her car is worth over 6K - her old car broke down just a couple of months ago so she had to get something else - and of course even inexpensive cars are going to cost at least 6K!!! She already changed her living situation to account for that, so I'm not sure what she will do yet.

How awful for your sister, Becky.

Having no health insurance has to be one of the scariest feelings ever. I can't imagine how she must feel.
