since it's been so quiet and dead here I've been lurking other boards
and I just want to say, I love you all so much for being civil and intelligent, some of the threads I've read through are down right harsh. Some people reply with snide comments, some reply with assumptions, some reply with close-minded comments...it's unbelievable.
Re: woah!
I totally agree! Women on the other boards are very snarky and I don't post anywhere but here, lurk on the others but never dare post!
Yeah, I pretty much just stick to this board. I was on one of the TTC Bump Boards for a while but it was just so bitter I had to leave. I can completely understand the bitter thing, I get it.. it sucks having trouble getting pregnant. But treating someone like sh*t because they actually GET pregnant is really screwed up, IMO.
I sort of enjoy lurking on all the drama though... it reminds me of a really awful play with lots of Jerry Springer-like characters making complete jack asses out of themselves... and I've got a front row seat FOR FREE
.
This is me. Sometimes I can't help but laugh at some of the stuff people say.
Me too!! It's a great way to pass the time reading some of that drama!
This response will totally make you avoid coming to the GTG on the 28th, I'm sure, but on occasion I think some of the posters on the other boards deserve some of the snark. I've never been to any of the TTC/or child related boards, but on the Travel board I notice this a lot. Someone will post something (and this is hypothetical) like "Anyone been to Italy?" and ask/state something very vague like "DH and I were thinking of going in the next year or two--what can you tell me about it or what was your favorite part?" Yet if they just scroll down (not even switch to another page) there might be 4 different posts about various trips/excursions/plans/favorite parts all with "Italy" very clearly in the title, various responses and with weblinks for further research. So, sometimes (as I stated, rarely) I'll give a slightly snarky answer and say "similar topic discussed earlier today, scroll down and read those responses." I mean, it's one thing to ask a local board a general question like that--in a way we sort of "know" each other and the posts from one day to another may not be relevant to one another, but I always try to do "research" before I'll post a comment/question on the national boards.
For things like what AT was talking about....well, that certainly seems entertaining (and a little sad.) I wouldn't ever respond to personal matters or matters of the heart in such a way--if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all, right? I mean, there is a difference between a newbie with an honest question/comment/vent and someone that's just...well....lazy.
I'm going to go ahead and agree w/ Charch.
I
you, Derky
.
I would TOTALLY come to your g2g if I weren't so far away (Carole King anyone?
)
I also agree that some questions are just DUMB (in which case, well, I just don't respond at all)... in that instance, I don't feel awful for the original poster. The snarkiness still makes me cringe in a "can't look away from this trainwreck so I might as well enjoy it" way, but I can understand where some daily posters of natl. boards would get annoyed by the ever-popular posts like "Am I pregnant? I just threw up!" :P.
Sometimes the anonymity makes people brave. Others are just b!tches.
I make sure I lurk a long time before posting on other boards.
Love it. I definitely agree with you--some folks do go way over the top.
The "over the top" is what keeps me from posting on other boards. What you said about lazy people and telling them to scroll down isn't snarky to me.
Snarky is when the regular posters rip a new poster apart. Rarely (like you said) it is deserved. Some people are stupid from the beginning, but others are honestly looking for some kind of help or advice.
I get the feeling sometimes that long time posters on national boards just don't want to take the time to get to know someone new so they do what they can to make sure they don't have to.
no way derky, you can't get rid of me that easily!(and what you referenced isn't snarky sounding to me, just stating the obvious!)
like you guys said, i kind of like reading the drama (and knowing i'm not a part of it!) I am just surprised by some of it, really people, THIS IS ONLY THE INTERNET
one thing I see a lot is that it seems women in their 30s don't like the nesties in their 20s....weird.
Very! I mean, even though we've had discussions about age before, it really doesn't matter one bit to me what age you are. Seriously--talk about a chip on someone's shoulder. Not only is it just the internet--life is WAY to short!!
And 715--thanks for not thinking I'm the devil!
