Critique my Valentines Menu

Ok girls I am cooking for 10. Us plus 4 couples on valentines day.

I am busting out the china, Setting the table, I am makingplace cards and there will be a menu at each place setting.

So for starters there will be a pear and goat cheese bread tart and Sparkling cranberry c0cktails.

For dinner...Beef Tenderloin w/ 3 different dipping suaces.
~a rustic veggie tart
~braised broccoli with pancetta and parmesean cheese crust
 ~chive mashed potatos
~beet and red onion compote
~pear and blue cheese pecan salad

and some sort of dessert, either a truffle or dipped strawberries

How does this sound? Would you eat it all? Do I have any holes in my plan? Something I am missing??

What else would you do to make it a special evening?

Re: Critique my Valentines Menu

  • should I loose the veggie tart at dinner and do like a french onion soup?
  • Soooo, at what time should we show up?? Wink

It looks good to me! I love a french onion soup, and I would probably prefer it over a veggie tart, but you know your friends better.

Definitely would crave red wine with it. Other than that, it sounds delicious!!

All sounds good.  So good.  Yum.   Oh jealous me!

  • Wow, sounds amazing!!

I might swap out the braised broccoli for french onion soup.  TMI, but broccoli gives DH very bad gas which is something I'd prefer to avoid on Valentine's Day.  Not that I'm eating with you, but just something to think about!

For dessert can you do chocolate dipped strawberries (like 1-2 for each person) and something else?  Maybe individual souffles?  Or those motlen lava cakes?  I'm thinking something like this:  http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=522100

  • Looks great!  The only thing that I wouldn't eat is the blue cheese, but most adults have no problem with that.  I am with Lore, what time should I be there??
  • Sounds delicious!

I think soup might be really filling on top of all that?  Maybe not though...I think a veggie tart sounds good.  Only thing I wouldn't eat would be the broccoli with pancetta...but that's because I don't eat pork.  But, you know your friends' tastes, so I'm sure this menu will be a hit!

  • Omg-I feel like i need to check flights for AZ! (kidding, I'll be here, in PA)

Wow-that sounds great! I think the veggie tart sounds great!  I'm sure your friends love it when you throw these parties!

  • Sounds delicious!! I think your friends will be quite impresed.

I like what you have listed, no need for soup. I'm not a big soup person though.

  • hahah flip flops, I think broccoli gives everyone mean farts ;) LOL

  • I love it!  Sounds wonderful and I like it just the way it is.  Even if there is a dislike or an allergy to something, it sounds like you still have everyone covered.  I am not a soup fan so it doesnt sound like anything is missing to me.

What time should D and I be there?

    ;)

  • Are you footing the bill for all your friend's V-Day dinner?? If so, you are awesome and the best friend ever!! They would be paying upwards of $75+ per couple at a restaurant, IF they were able to get a reservation!

I'm RSVP'ing for DH and I too, thanks!

Yup I am footing the bill. I think I can pull it all off for around $100. which isnt to bad, $10 a person.

I would love it if all my novembies could come to Vday dinner!
