Frustrating

My sister is getting married in June, and picked a highend bridal shop to get her dress from, and so she wants us to get our bridesmaid dresses from there as well. Our 15 year old sister and I are her only bridesmaids. When we went to try dresses on this weekend, I found out the only stock one of each dress, in a size 12. So the size 12 doesn't zip up over my boobies, and our little sis doesn't even have to unzip them to get in and out of them. How are we supposed to know how these dresses really fit!!? Ugh, frustrating.

Re: Frustrating

  • Since they're designer, they go off of body measurements.  They have charts and such to determine what size your measurements will fit into.

I actually ordered a bridesmaid dress I had never tried on for my friend's wedding.  Just went in, got measured, paid an obscene amount of money, and poof, I got a dress a few weeks later. Of course it needed some alterations, but most dresses do.

  • Yeah, I know that's how they determine what size we need, but before I pay for a dress, it would be nice to know how it actually looks on my body. I have a large chest, and many dresses look just horrid on me, so even if I get a size that fits, that still doesn't mean it's going to look good one me...you know what I mean?
  • Oooooooooooooh, I"m sorry, I read wrong, lol. Don't mind me.

Yes, I know what you mean. I have the opposite problem: I'm very hippy (pear shaped). I was REALLY nervous about what the dress would look like without actualy seeing it on.

Out of curiousity, is there a picture we can see of the dress? Did the store attendant say anything encouraging, like, "oh, I've seen other women like you in this dress, and it works out?"

  • Here's the dress, I just talked to my mom and we both agreed that if any dress is going to give me good coverage, this one should. The only thing I worry about is the armpit spillage (yes thats a proper term, and I have this problem). :)

  • It's cute! That is frustrating though, I know how you feel about dresses (or clothes in general) not fitting because of your boobs! I would say order one size bigger than your measurments, sure it'll mean more alterations, but they can make the armpits fit better than if the dress is a bit snug.
  • That dress is so cute! I agree with JTink, order to fit your chest and get the rest altered to work. I think you'll be fine in a dress like that!
  • I agree about the alterations - and it is definitely cute.  Is that the color it's going to be?
