More on NLQ

Read "Laura's Story"--link on the right under categories. For those of you who got through Vyckie's story, Laura is one of the wives from the home church, whose husband Vyckie never liked and couldn't figure out why.

It's not finished, and it's a little confusing because a couple of pieces are out of order, but it reads like the plot of a bad romance novel. Me likey.

Also, I think Vyckie's story says it's 35 parts because in addition to the 27 numbered parts, there are a few parts that aren't numbered (Sandy's story, the grandmother's story, etc.). But she's not finished yet either. I'm really hoping that once she gets to the part of the story where she leaves the blind guy that she'll start taking accountability for her own thoughts, but I doubt it.

Re: More on NLQ

  • AH! good point on the numbering. And you know she wont take accountability, simply by the "donate" buttons on the left. Life was hard, now she wants America to support her and her quiverfull.

Reader's Digest Version: Laura has two mommies and fears death. She's miss popularity and can have any guy she wants. She picks Dale.

Dale is a Christian and tells Laura that her two mommies are evil. He then convinces Laura that her evil mothers lied on her financial aid applications and it would be immoral to pay for college with stolen money. The only answer is to get married, move to a farm in Nebraska and have 11 babies.

Right before they get married, Laura runs into Richard, her "first love" and knight in shining armor. He begs Laura to run away with him, because he's worried about the life she's about to find for herself. Laura "just can't."

Sometime between babies 10 and 11, Dale decides God is calling him to have an affair with a young woman in Brazil. He leaves the family for 3 months. In the winter. To "learn the language."

The Brazillian chick apparently has no interest in Dale, so he "learns the language" by sitting in a hotel room and watching TV shows dubbed in Spanish. For 3 months. In the winter. While Laura is home with all the kids and the farm.

Dale returns, and quotes a bible passage proving that he needs to hate his wife in order to get closer to Jesus. So he starts treating Laura like ***.

Laura decides that baby 11 will fix their marriage. It doesn't.

One day, the phone rings. It's Richard! He wants to meet for lunch! Laura asks for Dale's permission, even though he'll be in Brazil again at the time Richard is in town. Dale miraculously says yes. Dun Dun Dun!

We end there in a near-perfect cliff hanger. So what will happen next? Will Richard sweep Laura off her feet? Will she leave Dale and her 11 babies to move west and have the life she should have had with Richard? Spoiler alert: Yes.

Are we sure that Dale's last name isn't Sanford?
