So long story somewhat shortened: Had an employee ("Joe") who was diagnosed with a terminal disease earlier this year. Joe exhausted his FMLA and had to leave the company - Joe was okay with this. Joe failed to pay his life insurance premiums to convert the company plan to a private one. Joe is on his deathbed. Joe's wife calls me to see what I can do - not much since the insurance company says he's not covered. Turns out Joe has no savings and his wife doesn't have the money to bury him. I find that our plan has an accelerated benefit that pays 50% of your policy if you are diagnosed as terminal. Since his diagnosis was made while he was employed and on the life insurance plan, I made a plea to the life insurance company. Six long weeks later the claim was approved!
I just did the happy dance in my office.
Re: Work Yippee!
While I was reading this I was like wow this chick is hard core. But then got to the end - YAY!! Way to go Tracey!!
Wow!
I can imagine that your line of work is not easy... but I bet you get some peace knowing that you are *really* trying to help people.
I'm glad you were able to get the insurance company to approve your claim, at least this way this poor woman will have some financial stability.
