We're tossing around the idea of having an Open House after we've moved (yes, I realize we need to actually move first.)
I've convinced Greg to make it kind of like a cocktail hour with appetizers, wine, and martinis (we'll obviously offer beer as well because we know not everyone will be interested in liquor.)
Anyone want to share their great appetizer ideas/recipes?
Jo, when you made sliders, how did you keep them warm? And where did you get buns small enough?

I do realize but none of these are healthy snacks but they are things my mom used to make on NYE when we were younger.
I like to do sliders. I always find small buns at the grocery store but I know not all of them carry them. I get creative with them too. I use different cheeses. Some I make with blue cheese inside. Some I put carmelized onions on top. I keep them warm on this dish I got at Bed Bath and Beyond a couple years ago. It's a warming dish.
I also like making an antipasto with a light vinaigrette on top. That's always been a big hit.
At the last little soire we had, I made a tomato pie and that went over well.
For Christmas, I made these. I saw something similar on fn on one of the shows. I got some phylo dough and cut them into rectangles (not too big). I took some brie and raspberry jam put in the middle of the dough and then rolled them like an egg roll. I put in the oven on 350 for 20 mins and they were delicious.
If you can find pastry cups that are tiny (I always find them at restaurant depots) - they look like really miniature pie crusts. I cut cherry tomatoes and put half a cherry tomato, the tip of an asparagus, and some feta inside and drizzle some olive oil. Put in the oven at 350 for about 15 mins. Very good. Oh, and season with salt and pepper.
Hot spinach and artichoke dip. Or do a cold spinach dip inside a pumpernickel bread bowl. For the hot dip, I found a mini crock pot at BBB and it's perfect for cooking the dip and then keeping it warm. I think it was $13.
I found like little dinner roll buns and used those for the sliders. To keep them warm I just put a container of them in the oven on really low to keep them warmed up and when those were gone when I would put more in
This post is making me hungry, very hungry
BLT dip sounds sooo good
It's a party.. I don't expect it to be 100% healthy. LOL Have you tried those Stuffed Mushrooms? I realize they're easy to make but there are a million recipes out there and the last one I tried sucked. Big time. LOL
I think I'm going to make like two different kinds of pinwheels - those are always a huge hit and you can make ahead, are fine to sit out for a little while, and don't need to stay warm.
I'd like to do some different ideas like you posted, Kristi,... I'm just afraid people wouldn't touch some of it. LOL I specifically asked about sliders because I know if I don't have those, FIL won't eat anything at all. He never does when we have our Fiesta party. (FIL + Beer - Any Food = / = good)
That's what I'm always afraid of - offering things that no one likes, while it being something I would like to try (and think if people tried, they might like too... god knows I've done that to MH several dozen times!)
Unfortunately,.. people are rarely open-minded. Especially when it comes to food.
