DH bought my rings at Koop downtown about 4 years ago. I was going to have them update the appraisal (not GIA, just the 4K's specific to my ring) for our insurance. They'll do this for free but we're an hour away. Does anyone know how much other jewelers charge? I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to drop my ring off when we're in town or just find some place up here.
Re: wedding ring appraisal
I'm not help to your question, but have a question. Your insurance company is requiring an updated appraisal?

mine didnt require oen - however, they suggested to do it atleast every 2 years.
I have heard that some do but ours doesn't. However he bought them 4 years ago this March and I figure we should do it just b/c of the price of gold now and inflation. My co-worker had hers re-appraised and her ring went up by $1000. I would be mad if I lost mine if it was worth that much more!!
My family had a ring appraised a few years ago at Jared's. Jared's had someone come in 2 times a month that can give an official on site appraisal. This lady appraised it right in front of us and it took maybe an hour.
We went to the Jared's in Kenwood. I don't remember how much it was, though...
You might want to call them to check it out.
Ditto this. We brought in like 4 pieces to get appraised by appointment and the guy did it right in front of us, took pictures, etc. I don't remember how much it was but hubby thinks it was like $80 for a piece with diamonds and then less if it's without.

DH had this done prior to wedding. Our insurance didn't require updated appraisal.
Since the price of gold/plat, etc fluctuates with the market, they usually just 'average' the amount of metal in the ring anyways. What gives the huge cost is the quality/quantity of precious stones.
