Need a new carseat.. any recs?

So Jaylee is slowly outgrowing her carseat. She's already 28 1/2 in. and the carseat goes up to 30". We're looking at the Britax Marathon  CS or Boulevard. This would be our second carseat because our friend gave us her Britax Roundabout (it's smaller and fits better in my car, but MH wasnts something a little bigger for his trucks.) Any idea ladies?? Thanks

Re: Need a new carseat.. any recs?

  • I have a Marathon in my car and really like it.  DH has a Roundabout in his truck, we also use that one to travel with since it's smaller :)
  • Hi Lesley!

We just bought the Britax Marathon... so far so good. :)

  • We have a Britax Marathon and the Boulevard.  Both are good seats.  The one plus the Boulevard has is that you can adjust the harness without rethreading it.
  • Are these carseats ridiculous to put in a compact car?  We plan to use B's Mazda Protege and it just seems like it's gonna take up the whole back seat.  Even the infant carseat seems really large in his car.  Eventually we'll get something bigger, but are we gonna be okay for a while with this?

I wonder the same thing!  I drive a new body jetta (so it's compact, but not tiny or anything) and to install the True Fit - even in the infant setting (no head rest) I had to move the passenger seat way up.  I couldn't install it in the middle or else my knees would be touching the dash.  (I'm 5'8" though so my seat has to be pretty far back).  I can't even imagine what it will be like when I have to put the head rest back on.

It fit way better in DH's jeep, but the baby will be in my car almost always.

  • I'm not sure if they have a BabiesRUs in Maui but I got something in the mail a few days ago saying they are having a trade in event. You can trade in any stroller or carseat or a few other things and get 25% off a new one, and it doesn't have to be in the same catagory. It's not on their website yet though, maybe because that doesn't start for another week I think.

I don't know anything about carseats yet, just wanted to tell you about that sale.

  • but I should add - I'm only talking about rear facing installations.

The infant car seat seemed pretty big in my old Toyota Corolla, but you just have to make it work. The passenger would just have to sit more forward. I'm not sure about the 'bigger' carseats (Marathon, etc), but I think lots of people use those types of carseats in smaller cars (I see them in hawaii all the time). I think you'll be fine. :) Plus you're little one won't need a bigger carseat for a little while at least!

Our friend that gave us the carseat drives a Corolla and I drive a little (and I mean LITTLE) Sentra and the roundabout seems to fit okay, We have found that with the infant carseat th base is pretty big. We compared the Graco base to the Chicco base and the Chicco was a "little" bit smaller. You can actually fit my mom and dad in the backseat with Jaylee in the middle.... But let me tell you beware of the travel systems cause if you have a little trunk that stroller might take up most of it (we found that one out fast)

  • Thanks, ladies.  The infant seat fits fine but I can't imagine having to have people ride in the back with it.  But, we rarely have anyone ride with us anyways so I guess I shouldn't worry about it.  We didn't get a travel system...just the Snap N Go for now.  I don't really like travel systems and wanna wait to decide on what our needs are gonna be for a stroller.

Lori, perhaps by the time she needs a new carseat we'll be back in HI.  =P  Then we'll just buy a new car (small SUV probably ) because we're not planning to bring these cars back with us.

  • Good question. I am looking into getting a Britax soon but can't decide between Boulevard and the Marathon.  The Boulevard has the side thingy and I'm not sure that Ashton will like that once he get's older. Any rec's on that?

  • Anybody know anything about the Britax Diplomat?
  • Since a lot of you are looking at getting Britax carseats, you may wanna check out this video. I saw this a few years ago.

  • In case anyone was wondering...I think I am going with the Boulevard (not the CS version since I've heard it's not that great) over the others for our truck..I am thinking the Roundabout for my car...based on the thousands of reviews I read last night (target, amazon and babies r us).
