Work Drama-Vent

I don't know about others, but at my workplace I feel like I'm in high school all over again. There is always lots of drama going on. Fortunately I've been able to stay out of most of it. I'm having a hard time staying out of the most recent drama though because it involves a friend.

Backstory: Last fall a co-worker organized a bowling league with people from my department and people from the restaurant & bar she owns. She organized everyone into teams of 3 and made everyone shirts with their names on them and on the back put an advertisment for her restaurant/bar. The league was from last fall until this April.

So fast forward to a week ago. My friend's fiance is unexpectadly laid off and in order to conserve money my friend e-mails our co-worker and says that because of the layoff she and her fiance will no longer be participating. Co-worker then approaches my friend at work and says she's sorry to hear about fiance's job. She then goes on to say that my friend will have to pay her for the shirts and fees to find new teammates for the other person left on their team (so rude IMO). Friend does not pay co-worker because she doesn't believe she owes her anything, not to mention they don't have the money. Then yesterday co-worker e-mails her to say she still owes her all this money. My friend e-mails her back a long explanation as to why she does not owe her money (new teammates should have to pay league fees, shirts were offered as a gift and no one else was asked to pay for them) and how they don't have money because of her fiance losing his job and their wedding is in 3 weeks. Co-workers response is that she will be taking legal action against them and they should expect to be contacted by her lawyer. Seriously?! WTF?!  It's f'ing ridiculous. This whole situation has really changed my opinion of this co-worker and makes it really hard to be nice to her. I hope when she talks to her lawyer they laugh at her!

If you made it through this, a big THANK YOU for listening!
