Cutting it off...

I just made an appointment to get my hair cut and I am nervous! I am planning on taking a big plunge and donating 10 in. for locks of love. While I am excited to help out a charity, I did this about 5 years ago and hated my cut afterward and am really hoping the same doesn't happen again. I'll let you know how it goes.....

Re: Cutting it off...

  • Good luck! I did it a few weeks ago, and I'm so happy I did. I was getting sooooo sick of my long hair. I actually cut off 13 inches!

Just a heads up, Locks of Love is not the best place to donate to. Here's some info. Basically they sell the hair donated to them to make a profit, rather than making it all into wigs to be donated. The place I sent to is Pantene's Beautiful Lengths. They have a much better reputation.

  • Thanks JCam! I am so happy you mentioned that and I will definitely look into sending it somewhere else.

As for the cut.....I am so glad I had the guts to go through with it, my hair looks much healthier and I am super happy with the style.

  • That is so great!  Jcam you too!  You girls must have (had have) such long hair.
  • I'm glad to hear you like it! And I'm so glad you will look into another place :-)

  • Good for you!  Post a pic of your new cut--a few of us have donated and posted new haircut photos :)

I also donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, FWIW.  My main reason for doing so is because they focus on wigs for cancer patients, as opposed to Locks of Love's focus on alopecia sufferers (not that that's not worthy too, but my personal preferance was to support cancer patients).

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • I'm glad that it worked out well!  Cutting that much off always makes me nervous, too.  Kudos to you for the donating, as well!

My hair grows very fast and full, so I have done the big chop and donate a few times - both to Locks of Love and Beautiful Lengths.  I was particularly excited when I found out about Beautiful Lengths b/c my mom had to go through chemo in the past.  I like to spread the word about that one as well because their requirements are less strict, allowing for more people to donate.
