So I did some more research and it turn out that $450 for cleaning and preservation is pretty much the standard here in NYC. One place even said it was $250 to 850 for the cleaning alone, and then another $150 for the preservation- YIKES! The dress didn't even cost $850!! I decided to go with a place in Brooklyn Heights since it's so close to my neighborhood, and they use all green cleaning products, have their own facility in Brooklyn, an it's owned by a local guy about my age, who inheirited the business from his family (they've been in the cleaning biz since 1929). He came to pick it up today, so it's out of my hands now! Thanks for all your tips and I'll let you know how it turns out when I get it back.
