House prices.. this makes me feel better!

So crazy - I am watching House Hunters International (this is what happens when the baby is up late.. I am hooked on this show)..

These houses (apartments, really) in Tokyo are almost $400k (yes, $USB) for just over 500 sq ft!  That is nuts!  And some of these places were in rough shape, very outdated, so the buyer dumped lots of money into renovations.

Apparently Tokyo is one of the most expensive cities.  I'm sure places like NYC, LA, etc. are up there too, but it is crazy to imagine spending that much money on a tiny place

Re: House prices.. this makes me feel better!

  • i had an employee spend 320k on a 1 br condo in Md.  The washer and dryer was in a closet.  When I lived in VA the townhomes down the road started at $800k
  • Yeah, when I lived in Boston a coworker bought a place for 250K - it was a 1 bedroom condo near Beacon Hill, probably only about 400 sq. ft.  Nuts!

  • We are currently in the market for a home in the DC metro area (VA side). Places are so expensive. Some townhouses start @ $700k and they are small (but have a private garage, big thing down here). What we can get for $330k here and in upstate NY makes me sick.
