Scary event yesterday

Yesterday I went to visit W at ECU. She and her friend Caitlin hopped into the Tahoe, which is Rob's. Before we even left campus W said, "you scare me driving this thing." Typically I drive my Honda. I told her it would be fine and off we went. We had lunch and then headed over to check out her new apartment for the fall. We are driving down the road and coming up onto a busy intersection. There is a suburban in front of us who suddenly decides to take a right. W starts screaming and I jerk the steering wheel to the left. Thank God nothing was in the left lane. Suddenly I hear vehicles crashing and glass flying all over the Tahoe. I just knew that we had hit the suburban, who was busy hitting a Buick sedan. W is still screaming and saying we have to go back because it's a little old lady. I needed some were to pull over and turned into a Rite Aid and parked. I told W to call 911 but she was hysterical. I then told Caitlin to call and she asked where we were. "I don't know, get out and read the signs." I jumped out of the Tahoe and ran to the Buick. There was an elderly couple in the Buick and a lady was already at the driver's side talking to the older gentleman. She told me she was a nurse and he was "out". I ran over to the wife and started talking to her, making sure she was okay and that she stayed awake. There were two people in the Suburban, a man about 45 or so and his son who was around 19. They were both fine except for a bloody lip.

Well I stayed with the older lady, Mrs. Hill, until the rescue arrived. I would look up at W to let her know that they were okay but every time I looked over she was crying. Finally I asked the nurse to go over and to let her know that everything was alright once the rescue arrived. At that time they were removing the husband but could not get the wife out yet. Mrs. Hill asked me not to leave her and to call her daughter. Well I had to con Mr. Hill into giving me his cellphone so I could call their daughter. The daughter did not answer so I left her a message. I can't imagine receiving a message like that.

They packed Mr. and Mrs. Hill into an ambulance and took them to the hospital. The girls and I went on to the apartments and their daughter called while we were there. She was actually calm and thanked me for my help. The Hills have a son who called me about an hour later and said his dad was just shaken up but that his mom may have a broken hip.

The reality of how scary this was didn't hit me until I was driving back home alone yesterday. Somehow I managed to save the girls from a head on accident. We also learned that Whitney can't handle a crisis at all.

I would appreciate it if y'all would keep Mr. and Mrs. Hill in your prayers.
