what's your type?

I was thinking about Brad Pitt a bit this morning, and this might sound odd, but although I know he's good looking - I can see a photo of him and say, "Yes, that is a very handsome man" - I'm not really attracted to him. I would never be all, "Ooohhh he's so hot! I'd faint if he sat down next to me!" or anything like that. He's just not my type, not at all.

I like dark hair - dark brown or black. Blonde, light brown and red do nothing for me. And I have a strong preference for green or blue eyes over brown (with the possible exception of Zachary Quinto lol). That's not to say that I haven't dated guys with all kinds of looks, but the men that I'm most attracted to inevitably have dark hair and bright eyes.

The rest doesn't really bother me - a six pack is fine, but so is some padding (secretly, I've always been a little bit of a chubby chaser - go figure!). I prefer someone a bit taller than me, but have dated guys who were pretty much the same height as me as well (no one shorter, although now that I think about it, I don't ever recall thinking, "Oh I wouldn't go out with him, he's too short" so maybe it's just not a big deal to me).

When it came down to it, I married a man who is a few inches taller than me and has nearly black hair and green eyes!

Anyone else have a type?

Re: what's your type?

  • If my last three long term people are anything to go by: blue eyed, dark hair, left handed, plays guitar and defence (as a soccer player).

Specific, I know... but my husband is the third to fit the bill!

As far as celebs - Josh Holloway pretty much fits my bill - or Christian Bale.

  • I always went for multi-cultural guys who looked a little rough around the edges (with giant hearts on the inside).  Must be taller than me, physically fit, and have well-developed forearms.

Some of my fave celebs would be Benicio del Toro and Mike Lowell (Red Sox 3rd baseman)

And in real life, thankfully, DH is all that and MORE!

  • I have always like the darker hair too as well as the "salt pepper" look.

ie. my DH Stick out tongue or George Clooney, Patrick Dempsey, Gerard Butler

I'm also a real sucker for those of what I refer to as having a "bum chin". Basically a square jaw with a dimple.

When I met my hubby, he is pretty much what I had dated in the past, the athletic type, with the exception that he's taller than me! Those before where more of stalky build.

Ooooh this too! Ben started getting gray hair when he was in his early 20s and I love it! He still doesn't have a ton, just flecks by his temples. I think it's sexy. Stick out tongue He's not so thrilled about it lol - he doesn't hate it and he's not self-conscicous, but I think he'd prefer his hair without it (not enough to dye his hair, but if he could somehow magically change it, I think he would).

I tend to go for older men, so a little bit of gray is sexy to me!  Also, guys MUST be taller than me....I am completely not attracted to short guys. (I'm 5'11")  I also tend to like guys that are slightly "heftier."  Even a little chubby is good.  Unfortunately, MH is quite lean, but I keep cooking for him, so maybe someday! ;)

Brent has a lot of white hair and definitely sports the salt and pepper look - he isn't thrilled about it but he says he is happy to have hair at all Wink

I definitely have a type... I would not date anyone shorter than 5'10" even though I am pretty short myself (5'3")... I prefer a medium to athletic build, and a clean cut and well dressed man.  I don't think I have a preference for hair/eye color though.  I knew early on that I would probably marry outside of my race... while I do believe that there are cute Asian guys out there, I find that they are few and far between! which was fine with me... b/c I think mixed kids are the cutest anyway :)

  • Looks-wise, I've always liked tall, athletic guys.  I would say tall was more my type than anything.  B is 5'10", so not very tall, and he's actually the shortest guy I've dated.  The tallest was 6'4"!  And I'm only 5'1".  I always said I needed to find someone so I could balance out the gene pool.  Haha.  They've all had athletic bodies, too.

As for hair/eye/skin color, I've dated the entire spectrum so definitely no type there.  =P

  • I've always dated based on personality. Because of that, none of my boyfriends or H look alike. I almost said I've dated one of each - dark hair/light eyes, dark/dark, blond/blue, red/blue... built with muscles, chubs and sticks. Then, I realized, I have never dated outside of the American look (I won't say race, b/c everyone is a mix). Hmm, don't know if that is a preference or just what happened.

If I picked a poster for my locker Stick out tongue  it would meet these visual specs:

Lean, athletic build, perfect abs, sculpted chest, round butt, well proportioned legs (no skinny calves), broad shoulders, medium sized arm muscles (not body builder burly, but so you can see definition), nice hands

    Darkest dark straight hair

    Bright blue eyes

Clean shaven (not a fan of any facial hair)

    Not much body hair

    Nice tan

    Straight, white teeth

In the 90s, Brad Pitt was so gorgeous, a photo of him made my heart beat faster. LOVED him. I've never had a celebrity crush quite the intensity of that. I also love that he jumped in and helped New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. The whole Angelina phase just made my love go away.

Boohoo, I need a new celebrity crush.

Something about Josh Duhamel is sexy, but I can't look too close or that goes away.

  • I married my type...tall, dark and handsome.  Lean/athletic build...exotic features.  What was astonishing is that my first husband was NOT my "type" at all...and all of my friends and family were like, "huh?"  I should have known!  I mean he was handsome...looked like Kurt Russell/Patrick Swayze, but not my type at all.  Barely taller than me, blonde and blue eyed.

Now Joseph, from the day I met him I was totally attracted to him (even though he was 18 and I was already engaged to XH).  Because he was so my "type."  I had always dated non-caucasian men...not always black, but latin, filipino, or very mediterranean.  And always way taller than me and built like a basketball player (lean/athletic).  Bizarre, but true.

Celebrities that make me drool?  L.L. Cool J, Lennie Kravitz, Denzel Washington, Antonio Sabato Jr., Gil Marini...you get the idea.

Ooooh I like some of these picks! What about Gary Dourdan? He does it for me - rawr! (Gawd his eyes are pretty!)

  • Holy Smokes! I never knew why I found Josh so sexy...

now I know. Have you seen his nude pics?! Yes, that's my type.

Well, maybe a little rounder boohiney. Not everyone has a Baryshnikov butt.

  • ... and, I had a temporary crush on Harry Connick, Jr. during the aftermath of the hurricane.

He literally gave the shirt off of his back!!!

I'm from New Orleans. The street he is on is a main street. He rescues this sweet old man, who I think was without food and apparently clothes. All of the power was out in the city for weeks.

I love Harry carrying the man out. There is always something sexy about a man coming to the rescue. Bonus that he looks good without his shirt. So strong and sexy!

I love Rob Lowe's dark hair and bright blue eyes.

For some reason, who wouldn't be my Brad replacement. Not sure if he is too thin or too feminine... he just doesn't make my heart flutter. Maybe if I took his coloring and put it on a George Clooney sized head, that would be my type.

Too feminine. There's something about his nose...it's so...chiseled. Or something. Stick out tongue Actually, the nose is the reason Josh Duhamel doesn't quite do it for me either - I always think he's hot until I look closely at him, and then there's just something about his nose that I don't like!

  • I always thought my type was lighter hair and blue eyes (man, I love blue eyes), but I suspect part of that was b/c that type is just different from me.  I have dated a broad spectrum: red hair/blue eyes, happa from Hawaii (Japanese/Caucasian), a Swedish boy, my height to 6'4", mainly on the athletic side - but ultimately, I am both mentally and phisically attracted to tall, olive skinned, dark hair and dark eyes, lightly athletic build (and probably engineering type personality).  A clear example:

    image

Ha ha ha - kidding.  Smile  MH fits the bill perfectly: half Italian/half Irish (he got the olive complexion), tall (6'2" whoo hoo!), hazel eyes (so I got a little blue there ;)), and darkish hair (he started going gray in his 20s but he's more worried about going bald than the gray - poor guy).  I'm pretty short (5'3"), so I have to agree with some of the ladies - I like a taller man b/c I need to improve my gene pool.

Other types/celebrity crushes: Brad Pitt (remember him from Legends of the Fall ladies?  I swear I watched that movie 10 times the year it came out), Patrick Wilson, and even Sam Worthington (from Avatar - no idea why, just do).  See?  But those are all blondies.  Then there's ZQ and MH - talk about being all over the map.  Wink

Oh, I agree!  Have you seen the recent footage of Anderson Cooper rescuing that boy in Haiti?  Anderson Cooper - he's a good looking fella AND a silver fox!

Yes! I'm a sucker for it every time. Anderson the hero. I love him, too.

Sadly, I think he is gay. (well, not sad to the other gay men... but, sad for all the women).

Oh, and my confession is that it took me a while to realize that the clean-cut, well-dressed, well-built and extremely good looking men were gay.

LMAO it is a tragic realization, isn't it?

  • I like the dark hair, NOT blue eyes type =) Like MH.

Yeah, I've never been attracted to Brad Pitt or even think that he's that good looking. Dunno why. Are his eyes blue? I don't even know. But I grew up obsessed with Tyson Beckford, Will Smith, Ginuwine, Tyrese Gibson, etc. Then I transitioned to Josh Hartnett, Orlando Bloom, Zach Quinto, other dark haired men. No blue eyes there.

Oh and my type is definitely tall. MH is 6'8". I never aimed for THAT tall but it's nice =)
