bridal shower idea

Hi ladies!  I am working on putting together a bridal shower for my sister and am pretty much doing it single-handedly (there are 2 other girls in the wedding, but one is very long distance and the other is planning a shower for her own sister who is getting married a few weeks after my sister).  Anyways, the shower will be in June and I have two ideas for themes going and wanted to see what you think:

1)  a tea party theme: have a variety of iced teas (since it will be June), finger sandwiches, etc.  Use pretty tea pots/cups with flowers in them as table decoration

2)  a picnic theme: have mini versions of regular picnic food (ex: pigs in a blanket, mini-hamburgers, flavored lemonades, etc)

My sister wants to know nothing about the shower, so I can't get her opinion on a preference (she didn't even want to know when it was until she realized she needed to know in order to take off work).

TIA for your thoughts on either/both themes!

Re: bridal shower idea

  • IMO they are both really cute ideas! If it were me I'd rather the picnic theme, but I would be happy with either. If you went with option 2, it may be more relaxed. If you went with option 1 it would probably be a little more formal.

  • We did the picnic type thing with some nice little finger foods that travel well and some cheeses and things at Nissley winery. It was really nice outside. We took their walking tour afterward which was very fun and informative to do on our own.
  • i'd say it depends on where you're having it. they are both cute ideas!
  • I love both ideas, but a picnic would be more relaxing.
  • Since I don't like tea, I would go for the picnic idea. I think they both sound pretty cute though!

  • Friends and I hosted a tea party for a baby shower, similar to your idea.  We only had about 12 ladies so it was pretty relaxed and informal.  I vote for that one!

  • If your sister is a tea drinker, the tea party idea sounds like a good one to me - and I love the iced tea option.  And you have a very easy favor - tea!  I know everyone else says that the picnic idea would be relaxing, but it might be a bit too informal -  but again, that depends on your sisters personality.
  • I like both ideas, but I think tea parties are more common.  I'd go for the picnic theme to try something new.

  • Would you have the picnic theme inside or outside? Would you need a backup location in case of rain?

I think they are both cute- and you could do a lot to really expand either theme. Is your sister frilly or more laid back?

  • Ive been to two tea party themed showers and think they are adorable.  The one had a little tea bar set up with desert and all the gifts were vintage-y tea cups with tea bags.
