Help with Valentine's Dinner Party Menu

I am hosting a dinner party in two weeks for 7 girlfriends for a "Valentine's Day" celebration. ?I am at a total loss as to what to serve.

No seafood and nothing too "unusual" because some of my friends are very picky eaters. ?

I know I am doing bellinis and chocolate covered strawberries and that is about it...HELP!!?

Re: Help with Valentine's Dinner Party Menu

  • Can you be more specific about what's "unusual"?  That term means different things to different people.

  • For the most part, my friends are steak and potatoes/burgers and fries kind of girls (I supposed I could do that, lol). No seafood and no lamb.

Not sure if that helps ?

  • Heart shaped sliders (cut out of a regular bun w/ a cookie cutter) and fries w/ ketchup squirted w/ a squirt bottle into the shape of a heart on their plates?

Worldmarket sells heart shaped pasta...you could do something w/that.

You could also do melon cut into hearts.

  • Rachael Ray has some cute ideas in this month's copy of her Everyday magazine. I'd spend some time on allrecipes.com or foodnetwork.com.

And sure, they may like steak and potato-typed foods, but that doesn't mean that you can't get creative!

There's also a great recipe that I like (also by RR) that I've cooked several times. Ironically, it's called You-Won't-Be-Single-For-Long Vodka Cream Pasta.

IDK if your friends are single or not (obviously you aren't) but it could be cute.

Ignore the (32oz) notation on the can of crushed tomatoes. I have the cookbook where she published the recipe. It's a 28oz can. They don't make 32oz cans of crushed tomatoes from what I've seen.

Don't be afraid to use the basil. It says 20 leaves. That sounds like it would be too much, but it's not. If you skimp on the basil, it could come out to be quite bland.

I like to grill up chicken breast tenderloins on the George Foreman and then shred it up. Once I'm done cooking, I toss it in the pan.

It serves about 4 people, so you'd want to do a double batch at least. It's pretty inexpensive. I'd say less than $15 for one batch. But $30 on a dinner party for 8 (including you!) isn't too bad. It's less than $4/pp.

PS: If you use this recipe and think that there may be some left over that you'll eat later, DON'T throw the basil in the big mixture. I'd mix it in to each individual serving. When the basil gets reheated it becomes VERY strong in flavor.

  • I don't have a dinner recommendation, but in addition to the chocolate covered strawberries, you could make creme brulee.

Target has these cute heart shaped ramekins for only $2 each.

I think the sliders suggestion is a good one.  It's all about the display!

Maybe you could buy thos ramekins at Target and put the ketchup in there.

    GL!
