We were so naive...

So the house Jason and I bought was a foreclosure and the only odd thing about the house was the garage. All of the windows were tinted dark and the only light in there was red. We thought maybe someone was using it as a darkroom. Um...we found out who owned the house before us, and FIL says he doesn't think it was a darkroom. Last night we looked up his record on the state circuit court and it's pretty much looking that the guy was up to no good.

We knew that the guy had attempted to rob one of the restaurants in town, but didn't succed because two employees headlocked him and pinned him to the ground until police arrived. It was caught on surveilance so of course it made the news. We looked up the guy's name and then looked him up on the circuit court. Turns out the guy had robbed two other places in town about a month before at gunpoint. Currently, he's serving a 5 year sentence for the 1st robbery and the other two trials haven't been concluded yet. On top of that he also has charges of drug paraphernalia and 2 years ago he was found guilty of 4 counts of obtaining a perscription drug by fraud, which he served 18 mo. for. Seems he had a little drug problem and he may have been trying to grow pot in the garage. Holy $hit! I'm sure he'll be jail for a long time, but Jason keeps saying "what if someday he shows up at our house?!".

Here is the article from the robbery where he got caught, it's actually kind of funny:

Re: We were so naive...

  • Interesting... I always wonder this about houses and who lived in them before.

  • OMG! Creepy!  I hate to say it, but I would be thinking the same thing as Jason, eventhough I'm sure he would never show up.  By the sounds of it, even if he does get out it won't be long before he's back in jail.
  • Yeah, I've realized it better not to who lived in the before you!  That's crazy though that you found all this out about him.
    Visit The Nest!
  • I'd be looking into an alarm system..LOL.  Although the people who rented the house before it was renovated and sold to me weren't much better than this guy.  The cops and fire deparment were here atleast 3 times a week.  My neighbors LOVE me because we are so quiet and cause no problems.  Didn't really know the full extent until FI locked us out of the house one day and we called the cops to come and they sent THREE cars because of the address.

  • Creeeeepy!!!  I also always wonder about who lived in places before me... that is such a crazy story!
  • That's creepy!!!  Hopefully he never tries to come back!

The house we live in right now I know every single person who's ever lived in it because DH's Mom bought it brand new.

I'm not even sure how my husband found out who owned it. At first he just knew it was the guy who tried to rob the restaurant. We then found out the couple had a kid who went to school and was friend's with Jason's half brother. Yesterday we decided to look him up and now I kind of wish we didn't!

I'm definitely thinking about an alarm system, not just because of the previous owner. One of our next door neighbors is very creepy and nosy. One day while construction was going on he just walked in through the front door, didn't knock or anything! He's done other creepy things but I won't get into that.

  • Very scary.  Definitely look into an alarm system.  Just for your own piece of mind.

  • so creepy! definitely look into an alarm system, even if it's only for peace of mind.
  • I don't think he'll be an issue- I would get the air quality tested though, just to eliminate any air quality concerns in case he grew pot inside.
