Hi. So I am looking for advice on things that I can do to meet new people in my area. I am a 28 year old married female getting ready to start a new job as a graphic designer. My husband has joined an indoor soccer league this year, and that's the only major activity that we do not do together. I was hoping people on here would have suggestions on activities or clubs I could find to meet other women to hang out with while my husband is out being manly on the soccer field. I don't live in the same area I went to high school in so there aren't a lot of old friends around. I am not active in any religious organization at this time, and I do not have kids. Any suggestions on fun things to do in the Charlotte, Monroe, Lake Norman area?
Re: Meeting New People
I can so feel you on this account! I feel like I'm in a similar posistion. However I have a kid- I've tried to join in on some of the local mom groups/ play groups- but I just don't fit in. I only have one close friend but she doesn't have kids (yet) and is just now planning her wedding.
I see that lots have clicked on your post but not too many replied- So I think that might tell you that they don't even know what to tell you. I know that the nesties have some GTGs maybe you can join in next one and make some friends that way. I went to one but felt kinda like an outsider- but I think that's more to do with me than them.
When I moved to Raleigh, I was in the same situation. I became very involved in my HOA and have met tons of great friends right in my neighborhood. I actually started a Supper Club in our neighborhood and Happy Hours during the summer. It has been a great venue for meeting the neighbors!
I have also gone to some nest GTG's in Raleigh was able to meet some great girls that way. Now a few of us get together regularly for lunch, which has been a blast! I tried to join a Bible Study, but that just wasn't for me. Currently, I'm looking to find a place I can volunteer regularly to help out the community but also meet some other people.
Just know that you aren't alone. It is definitely hard finding your type of people in a new town. I would just say keep putting yourself out there and you'll start to find a great group of people. GL!
Hey, a lot of us are in the exact same boat. Every once and a while we plan a get together but unfortunatly, often it falls apart. The next time we plan one, you should see if you can make it. Often it is in Charlotte.
However, through talking on here and some of the other boards, you can manage to click with some of the people when you feel out their personality. I really enjoyed hanging out with a few of the ladies I met here. The only downside is, usually people have dramatically different schedules. Hence the difficulty of getting together in the first place.
Why cant it just be like first grade again. Go up to random people and ask, "Will you be my friend?"...hehe
Next time you have a free night, suggest a Charlotte G2G.. There are always some of us dying to get out of the house!
