XP: Throwing a bridal shower

I m throwing a bridal shower for my neighbor.  Is there anything from your shower that you loved?  Theme, gifts, games, food, etc.  Any suggestions?

TIA

Re: XP: Throwing a bridal shower

  • Sorry. For me it was about the people more than the event.
  • I really appreciated that my sister took my wants/needs/likes into consideration.  For example, I really dislike shower games, so we didn't play any.  I love cooking so she made the theme about the kitchen.

I also agree with a pp, it was so amazing to have all of the people who ment so much to me in one room.  And for those who created drama, my sister took care of it with out me even knowing about it.  She did a great job!

GL and have fun throwing the shower!

  • I threw a bridal shower for a friend and she (nor I ) are into shower games, but I knew I wanted to do some sort of activity. I took white paper lunch sacks and wrote one letter of her new last name on each one. Then inside each sack was a household item that began with that letter. Each person wrote down what they thought was in each sack and the winner got a prize and the bride got to keep all the items in the bags. If you didn't want to spend extra $ to put new items in the bags you wouldn't have to, but I thought it was a fun way for the bride to get some goodies too.

  • I didn't want to have an all girls, brunch, open gifts kind of shower.  Instead, we did a cocktail party with husbands and boyfriends invited.  That way, I didn't have to sit in a chair and have everyone watch me open gifts!  It was really fun and great to have everyone I loved together.  Also, it was nice to have my fiance (at the time) there since it was about us, not just me.
  • I'm helping plan a bridal shower later this year, so we're tossing around themes right now...

Brunch Shower - Mimosas, quiche, lots of fresh flowers
Drinks & Dessert - later afternoon/evening with cocktails, cupcakes, sweets
Kitchen Theme - vases of wooden spoons as decor, cute apron for bride
Tea Party - traditional, lots of pink, little sandwiches

     HTH  GL!

  • My family always does a timer when the bride/mom-to-be is opening gifts at a shower. The timer is put at 5 minutes and whoever brought the gift that the bride is opening gets to choose a prize. Then the timer is reset...It keeps people involved when the bride is opening lots of gifts

also, someone will make a big basket of envelopes for thank you notes. When people drop off thier gift they fill out thier address on a card & it is so much easier for the bride

  • I'm not a big game person either... so we didn't do that.  I really liked that mine had wine.  I love wine, we had some wine themed things as part of our wedding... so it was nice that people got to drink at the shower.  It was an outdoor luncheon.  Since it was my only shower, there were a lot of people that didn't know each other.  Wine certainly helped the mingling! :)
