What was your favorite- bridal shower?
Was it a couples, lingerie, etc? What made it your favorite? Just trying to get ideas together for my bff's shower.... Thanks!
Re: What was your favorite- bridal shower?
only had one. it was a traditional shower w/ friends & family from back home. it didn't have a gift theme.
My friend threw me a martini shower. She had a martini that matched each of my wedding colors. It was great, we had afternoon cocktails, good apps, and just hung out together. An afternoon cocktail party
(There wasn't a theme for gifts or anything, it was standard registry kind of stuff)
I really like showers where there is something to do--though that isn't frequent! As much as the typical games generally annoy the masses, I generally just "embrace" the cheesiness of it all and think of it as something to do to pass the time (I still "Ooh and aaah" at all the gifts). Most of the time there has always been a full meal offered--whether its lunch or brunch--either buffet or in some cases a plated meal, so that too kills some time. Oh, and for my guests, I always try to find at least one game that's "newer" that most people have never played. Ultimately I try to come up with all newer games, but if I'm in a rut, then I'm pretty choosy about the "old standbyes" i actually use.
If I were to make suggestions for someone else, I would probably use the registry as my inspiration. If my friend was registered for a lot of baking stuff, kitchen gadets, etc, I might make it a "recipe" shower, where all the guests are asked to bring a gadget or two from the brides registry that would be necessary to make the recipe that the guest also provides. That way, not only is the bride gaining "stuff" she wants, she's also gaining favorite recipes from guests (and it's not just the easy-to-forget recipe card enclosure.) Or if the couple is buying a new home, or will be moving into a new home together after the wedding, you could have a "homegoods" party and ask guests to bring items to help decorate certain rooms of the house (the bedroom obviously being the most popular).
Personally, I'm relatively shy, so I was very relieved that my BM has my lingerie shower as a combo with my bachelorette party, so it was only girlfriends around. If Grandma or MIL were present I would have DIED of embarrassment!!
I'm pretty sure you could do this kind of thing at the Carolina Inn or Washington Duke Inn. I've been to tea at the "WaDuke" and it's really, really nice.
I had 2 showers...one with all the "young" girls that I always hand with and my Mom's friends threw me a "Cougar's shower", it was all the older ladies (married and single). It was fun because I got all the silly frilly things from my girls and then got the practical gifts and advice from the Cougars.
No matter what you choose, I'm sure the Bride-to-be will think it's the best shower she's been to ;-)
We had 2. For the couple's shower, we had a pig pickin'. It was great. Everyone was relaxed and had a great time.
The 2nd one was for the girls which included aunts, cousins, etc. It was your typical "prissy" type bridal shower.
If I had to choose one, I would say the couple's shower just because it was so laid back.
However, if I could do it over again, I would rent a place at the beach and invite only the girls (because DH doesn't really enjoy that kind of thing). I love having girl's weekends. We could have made dinner together, watch movies, craft, etc.
Good luck planning! I'm sure it will be wonderful!
Couples shower, something modern but without too much expense/commitment (let's be honest, these showers are only really fun the bride, her best friend and mom anyway)
depending on the time of year, outdoor events are always my preference!
