Watching Project Runway and browsing through the decorating blogs makes me really want to learn to sew. I can do buttons and back in high school, I made an apron that had nice straight lines. But I have no idea how to get started again. Anyone have a machine they could recommend? Should I just buy from fabric and start to practice? Anyone have thoughts of suggestions?
Re: Can you sew?
Yeppers. In fact, my mum and I hand picked the silk and made all of the groomsmen ties (yes, all 12 of them) for my wedding. It was no easy feat. My mum is a brilliant seamstress. *Someday* I'll be that good...
IMO, you cannot go wrong with a Singer. Obviously they range in capabilities (and price) from fancy-schmancy to pretty basic, so it really depends on what type of sewing you're going to do and how much you want to spend.
As for getting back into it, I'd highly recommend taking a few begginner-ish classes. With the popularity of shows like Project Runway, there are a ton of options and even here in NYC, I haven't found them to be very expensive.
I survived the RoLex wedding and all I got was this lousy husband.
