Gov't VENT

Okay, so this kid is 6 months old and still does not have a birth certificate!  DH made the application for the SIN & Birth Certificate when DD was 1 week old.  Great, I was recovering, it was all online, easy - no problem.  Fast forward 4 months, we're thinking "geez, where's that birth certificate?"

We get a letter that says they received the app for birth certificate and the SIN but you did not complete a Statement of Live Birth.  Okay, I think that's dumb that there's another step but whatever, I complete the Statement online.  I get ANOTHER letter that says we have not completed the Statement.  I call the Office of Registrar General to ask what's up this, I completed the Statement online two months ago!

They can't give me any information because I did not make the original Birth Certificate application. Never mind the fact that I pushed the kid out MY frickin' birth canal, they can't give me any info.  AAARGH!!!

Re: Gov't VENT

  • Ugh.  That is frustrating!
  • That is soooo weird. I totally thought that the Statement of Live Birth was the first step in the process and that you couldn't complete steps 2 - whatever without doing that form first.

I think it is ridiculous that they won't take to you about it.

I'm not sure how DH managed to miss this step but it's ridiculous that they can't talk to me about it considering I completed the Statement and I'm named as the mother on the birth certificate application.  I even said to the guy "So even though I gave birth to her, you can't talk to me about this?"  He just said "uh...yeah."  Not his fault, just frustrating.
