BR: Do I Need the Medela Accessory Kit?

If I have the Medela PISA, would you recommend that I also get the Accessory Kit for the spare parts?

It includes: 4 Bottles and Lids, 2 Valves & Membranes, 2 Micro Steam Bags, 2 Breastshields

I think the PISA already comes with everything except the micro steam bags.

  • I got a similar kit (free), w/o the steam bags, from the hospital LC's.  It is nice to have extras of everything but not necessary.  I've been able to use what was included w/my PISA and never felt like I wish I had an extra set, really, since I hand wash the parts.  I just do it immediately after each use and then it is always ready for the next time I want to pump.  They sold the steam bags at the store in the hospital so you could always get those separately.

I'd just wait and see how things go w/nursing and pumping before you purchase something like that....

  • OK, thanks!  I saved this to my maybe-later-wish-list.  :)

  • I agree with Jamie...it will be nice to have later. I have two sets..one for work and one for home.

Also, I keep a quart zip lock bag that I keep my pump parts in during the day that goes in the fridge so I don't have to wash in between pumping sessions (milk stays cold that is on the parts). I got that tip from the bump breastfeeding board.

THIS is a great tip! I never heard of that... Awesome.

Also - I am planning to buy the spare parts kit because It would be helpful to have another set for pumping at work. So I wouldn't buy it now, but keep in mind that you may want to get a spare set eventually. HTH!

  • Renee, that IS a great tip!  I don't think I'd always be "on it" to wash each part right afterward.  Embarrassed

Hoping I get some hospital freebies and don't have to even get the kit. Thanks!
