Re: Monday POLL time!!
1. When you were in H.S., did you win any awards your senior year? For instance, Prom Queen, Valedictorian, etc.... No awards won... except I was voted class clown or something like that within JROTC (I know... dorky)
2. Which celebrity/politician/famous person, could you do without? Who would you rather never hear from again and why? Rev. Al Sharpton - the reason is he came down to the town I used to live in to claim that two police officers - one being my friend - were racially targeting young black men. Long story short - the young black male was shot by the two cops. The male was trying to run over the cops and they did what they could to stop it (no they could not get out of the way in time). They did not shoot excessively - only three shots were fired. Both cops were found to be in the right. Rev. Sharpton came to the town making all these claims and the two cops were minorities themselves - one black and white Puerto Rican. He was so ridiculous that the residents, the ones who were originally upset about this, kicked him out of the town. It bothered me that he tried to add fuel to the fire when he didn't even know the whole case.
3. What is your favorite quote? "Live every week like it's 'Shark Week'". It's from the show 30 Rock and meant to be silly - which it is - but it brings up a good point. People who know about Shark Week get all excited when they find out it's coming up and actually is Shark Week. This quote reminds me that every week should be approached with the same enthusiasm and excitement.
4. What do you see yourself and hubby doing when you retire? Most of us will say travel......but to where? Lounge on a beach in Hawaii - either Oahu or Maui. Knit, read, exercise and be the silly grandparents who spoil our kids rotten. Well... DH wouldn't knit but you get the point.
5. What is your worst dating experience? Basically I went on a date with this guy who was completely childish. He was trying to show he liked me by throwing bags of chips at my head and tripping me, etc. I had to get out of there QUICK!
6. Do you have any hidden talents? I can remember numbers like Rain Main. It's pretty insane but I blame it on my linguistic training... we had to learn numbers in our given language and be tested on them for speed and quality.
7. What is the best vacation you have ever been on and why? Either the trip I took back home to Hawaii in which my dad and I spent a TON of time just hanging out, walking on the beach and running errands. Or the 36 hour trip I took flying to Minneapolis to meet up with my best friend to surprise another best friend (my MOH). I finally got to meet my MOH's now husband and my long distance boyfriend (now DH) drove up for the quick visit. It was too short but perfect nonetheless.
8. If you could start your own restaurant, what would it be? It would be an Irish brewery/pub with great beers, delicious Irish food and most importantly, amazing dessert!
1. When you were in H.S., did you win any awards your senior year? For instance, Prom Queen, Valedictorian, etc....
It's far more 'boring' in Canada, we don't have prom queen's etc. But no, no awards for me.
2. Which celebrity/politician/famous person, could you do without? Who would you rather never hear from again and why?Elisabeth Hasselback irritates me lately so I'll pick her :P 3. What is your favorite quote? One of the many - the purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.-eleanor roosevelt 4. What do you see yourself and hubby doing when you retire? Most of us will say travel......but to where?Buying a small shack in Hawaii and living there for 6 months out of the year? that sounds pretty perfect. 5. What is your worst dating experience? I had a couple blind date doozy's that I wouldn't want to relive that is for sure.6. Do you have any hidden talents? I used to show horses when I was younger? Not a special talent but something most of you may not know about me :)7. What is the best vacation you have ever been on and why? The 3 week long vacation that we had in Hawaii, pre-wedding, wedding week and honeymoon, not sure anything can top that.8. If you could start your own restaurant, what would it be? Hmm, Italian? Or some kind of family establishment with my Mom, Aunt and Grandma with homemade wholesome mealsI love Hawaii!

1. When you were in H.S., did you win any awards your senior year? For instance, Prom Queen, Valedictorian, etc....
I didn't get anything that made the yearbook. But there was an impromtu awards ceremony at our Senior Day event and my girlfriend and I got "Tied at the hip."
2. Which celebrity/politician/famous person, could you do without? Who would you rather never hear from again and why?
Oh I have a few........and since this was my poll, I'll cheat!
But I could do without Rush Limbaugh, Pat Robertson, Heidi Montag. I'm sure I will think of 5 others in the next few min.
3. What is your favorite quote?
"Don't marry the man you can live with, marry the man you can't live without."
4. What do you see yourself and hubby doing when you retire? Most of us will say travel......but to where?
I envy my parents so much that I intend on doing everything they do. And my dad's not even retired yet, he just has a very open schedule. But they travel to all the places they never thought they'd go to. Like right now, they're in Egypt. I intend on following their steps. When we aren't traveling, we will for sure be snowbirds somewhere. I hope there will be grandkids to spoil every weekend!
5. What is your worst dating experience?
Oh man......well I was on a blind date. I had been talking to this guy for months and we finally decided to meet up. He took me out with his friends (bad idea). He got so wasted and was at the bar ordering another drink, he ended up throwing up all over the bar. I immediately walked out of the bar and called my friend to come and get me. She drove 45 min to get me. No way was I getting in the car with him and no way was I EVER going to have words with this man again.
6. Do you have any hidden talents?
I wouldn't call this a talent by any means but there's been this phenomenon amongst my friends. I have hooked up countless friends. And I would say 90% of them ended up getting married. So weird. Perhaps that's the line of work I should get into!
7. What is the best vacation you have ever been on and why?
When MH and I first started dating, literally like 2 weeks into dating, we planned a cruise for 4 months later. What a risk but I just had that feeling we would still be dating. We went on a Mexican Riviera cruise. I think what made it so memorable was that it was our first trip together and there was something so carefree about it.
8. If you could start your own restaurant, what would it be?8. If you could start your own restaurant, what would it be?
Well I always said I wanted to own a bar that boasts the best happy hour in town. I would love this bar to serve all the best comfort foods there are out there.
1. When you were in H.S., did you win any awards your senior year? For instance, Prom Queen, Valedictorian, etc....
Nope, I was totally middle-of-the-road. Although one of my friends did vote for me as The Next Bob Ross (most artistic), even though I'm not particularly artistic. I thought that was funny.
2. Which celebrity/politician/famous person, could you do without? Who would you rather never hear from again and why?
I was going to say Sarah Palin, but now that I think about it, I'd rather get rid of Levi What's-his-face. As much as I don't care for her, I think the way he talks $hit about that family for money and attention is disgusting.
3. What is your favorite quote?
"Keep your face to the sunshine, and you cannot see the shadow." (Helen Keller). It reminds me to always look at the positive side of things.
4. What do you see yourself and hubby doing when you retire? Most of us will say travel......but to where?
I think I'm the opposite... I'd rather travel while we're young, and stay put when we're retired! With the amount of family I have, I'd like to just have a little spot on the coast, where we can watch the ocean together when we're not busy spoiling our grandkids/neices/nephews rotten!
5. What is your worst dating experience?
TMI alert! I was *ahem* otherwise engaged with a guy and he got gum all over my favorite, most expensive bra. End of evening!

I can pick the winner of Jeopardy at the beginning of the episode, based on the contenstants' handwriting. I'm right almost every time.
7. What is the best vacation you have ever been on and why?
Our wedding, of course! I guess maybe it's cheating to say that? Second place would be our family reunion on the Oregon coast when I was 16. We rented a house and it was crammed full of our crazy extended family. That was such a fun week!
8. If you could start your own restaurant, what would it be?
We've actually talked about this - rather than a restaurant, we'd love to buy a large bar or small theater and convert it into a live music venue.
1. When you were in H.S., did you win any awards your senior year? For instance, Prom Queen, Valedictorian, etc....

I'd love to be able to do 6 month somewhere warm (e.g. Hawaii) and 6 months in the PNW (I need some rain
. All the while, being active in the community, volunteering, guided tours in national parks or something.
5. What is your worst dating experience?
A few GFs and I tried 8 mintue dating. That, in and of itself, provided many good stories. But I met one guy, not actually someone I was paired with, but we ended up chatting after the event. We made plans to meet for dinner the next week. Dinner was ok, a bit awkward, and he spent a good deal of time telling me about his superficial ex-wife. At the end of the night, I was paying for dessert (we went to another place), and while calculating the tax I overheard him mumbling. I said something like "Shh, I can't calculate the tip and talk at the same time" and I SWEAR he said "Do you like butt plugs or dildoes?".
I completely ignored his question and acted all cold towards him - thank goodness the date was ending. And at my car, he tried to kiss me! Ew ew ew ew!
6. Do you have any hidden talents?
None that I can think of on my lunch break
7. What is the best vacation you have ever been on and why?
Gosh, there are so many. I went to the Big Island by myself and spent my 27th birthday on the beach. Costa Rica with my 2 best friends from High School. MH's and my first vacation - 2 weeks on NYC and Washingtin DC exploring all the sights, sounds and museums you could imagine. Hawaii for our wedding and honeymoon with our families and friends.
8. If you could start your own restaurant, what would it be?
Hmmm..a breakfast/bunch joint that served healthy, energizing food so that you can attack your day. I love breakfast.

Nope ... I was (and still am) pretty much a plain Jane
2. Which celebrity/politician/famous person, could you do without? Who would you rather never hear from again and why?

Heidi Montag/Spencer Pratt... but honestly I'm a celebrity gossip fiend, so I enjoy all kinds of trashy people
3. What is your favorite quote?
Not sure if I have one favorite. Here are a few I like:
"live simply. love generously. care deeply. speak kindly. leave the rest to God"
God makes three requests of his children: Do the best you can, where you are, with what you have, now?
"Fear less, hope more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Hate less, love more; And all good things are yours."
4. What do you see yourself and hubby doing when you retire? Most of us will say travel......but to where?

7. What is the best vacation you have ever been on and why?
Hmm, with my family-- definitely when we went to DC for Christmas and NY for New Years. With the hubs-- Southern Cali. after the wedding and got to be tourists at Disneyland/Venice/LA
8. If you could start your own restaurant, what would it be?
I like the idea of a 'bridal bar' that serves alcohol so you can relax and plan your wedding with a glass of wine... throw showers/bachelorette parties.... Now i'm not too sure. Hubs would love to open a bar though.

1. When you were in H.S., did you win any awards your senior year? For instance, Prom Queen, Valedictorian, etc....
I was "Most Outstanding Band Member"....yeah, I was a geek!
2. Which celebrity/politician/famous person, could you do without? Who would you rather never hear from again and why?
Anyone who is famous solely because they have rich parents.....people like Paris Hilton and anyone associated with her. Just because you were born rich doesn't mean that you have any speck of musical/acting/fashion designing talent.
3. What is your favorite quote?
We are the music-makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams. Yet we are the movers and shakers of the world forever, it seems.
-Arthur O'Shaunessy
4. What do you see yourself and hubby doing when you retire? Most of us will say travel......but to where?
I like what my ILs do....they take one major trip a year for about a month to a completely different part of the world each time (last few were South Africa, Galapagos, and the next is Antarctica). The rest of the year they volunteer and relax. I'm sure they'll also visit us a lot and spoil the LO when he/she comes along!
5. What is your worst dating experience?
I went to dinner with this guy on a first date and when the check came, we were in the middle of a conversation, so neither of us took a look at it right away. I thought things were going quite well, as we were having great conversation. Then, all of a sudden he grabbed it and said, "I don't mind paying, but you really shouldn't just assume that I will," in a kind of snotty voice. I ALWAYS offer to pay my way on a first date, I just hadn't gotten a chance yet. Needless to say, I did let him pay, and never saw him after that again.
That, and I also was on a dating TV show where I had to go on a date on camera. The guy was fine (a little boring). But the 9-hour date that was filmed to look like it was only about an hour made me very disillusioned about all so-called "reality TV."
6. Do you have any hidden talents?
Hmmm.....I can touch my tongue to my nose, does that count?
7. What is the best vacation you have ever been on and why?
Definitely Hawaii for our wedding. Really, it's the only true vacation I've ever had (as an adult) that was longer than a long weekend. I have traveled a lot, but almost always in Europe or Australia with high school students in the summer for 9 years before I was married. The trips were awesome, but I was kind of working, so I don't really count those trips as "vacations."
8. If you could start your own restaurant, what would it be?
Rather than a true restaurant, I've always wanted to start a catering business. I love to prepare food and desserts for parties.
1. When you were in H.S., did you win any awards your senior year? For instance, Prom Queen, Valedictorian, etc....I was voted Beach Bum - for the yearbook picture, the camera was malfunctioning so they had to reschedule but on the rescheduled day, I cut school and was hanging out at the beach. It was an appropriate title for me
2. Which celebrity/politician/famous person, could you do without? Who would you rather never hear from again and why? Not a tv watcher, I read most almost all of my current events so it really limits my exposure to any annoying celebs.
3. What is your favorite quote? Can't think of any
4. What do you see yourself and hubby doing when you retire? Most of us will say travel......but to where? Definitely travel - Our travel wishlist changes frequently but a high priority is Antarctica - it'll be my seventh continent!! (Disclosure: I'm an airline workerbee that has obscenely fabulous and well used travel benefits that will carry into retirement if my airline stay alive).
5. What is your worst dating experience? Omg - I have so many!! One that was burned into memory was a guy who's house smelled like a ktty litter box. Nothing worse than pee ammonia filling your nostrils. I was pretty ill after one whiff. Told him it must have been the mexican food for dinner and hauled azz out of there.
6. Do you have any hidden talents? I can fly airplanes and own an antique letterpress machine.
7. What is the best vacation you have ever been on and why? Best ever was our engagement vacation. We were on safari in South Africa and H surprised me with a proposal and ring on my pillow.

how fun, love this poll!
1. When you were in H.S., did you win any awards your senior year? For instance, Prom Queen, Valedictorian, etc....

2. Which celebrity/politician/famous person, could you do without? Who would you rather never hear from again and why?
I could probably do without all politicians, to be honest. I hate politics.
As for celebrities, I could do without Angelina Jolie. Kind of tired of hearing all about Brangelina and their kids.

I can rotate my right arm a full 360 degrees

a place that served just desserts from around the world

1. When you were in H.S., did you win any awards your senior year? For instance, Prom Queen, Valedictorian, etc....
I don't think so, I wasn't one of the popular girls. I was an Honor Graduate, if that means anything.
2. Which celebrity/politician/famous person, could you do without? Who would you rather never hear from again and why?
Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh. This needs no explanation.
3. What is your favorite quote?
Hmm...I have lots, depending on the situation...for today:
"Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try." - Unknown
4. What do you see yourself and hubby doing when you retire? Most of us will say travel......but to where?
Travel...probably to Japan and Vegas a lot (assuming we're living in HI).
5. What is your worst dating experience?
I wasted 3 1/2 years on a loser who lied and cheated. I was stupid, but the good thing is that it made me appreciate so much more what I had when I met B.
6. Do you have any hidden talents?
Umm...I can twirl a flag? As in marching band color guard flag.
7. What is the best vacation you have ever been on and why?

A Chicago deep dish pizza place in Vegas because there are NONE! Well, no good ones anyways.
1. When you were in H.S., did you win any awards your senior year? For instance, Prom Queen, Valedictorian, etc.... Nope. But I graduated years early.

5. What is your worst dating experience? Going out with my roomie's brother in college. He had the BIGGEST crush on me, and although I liked him, I didn't like him, if you know what I mean. I agreed to go out with him once so that he'd stop bugging my roomie, knowing full well that it wouldn't lead to anything. It wasn't a truly horrible date, but it was just so freaking AWKWARD. I think I've never had a dinner drag on so long...
6. Do you have any hidden talents? I can read upside down and backwards nearly as fast as I can read the regular way.
