Hunter is officially baptized into our church. I'm relieved its over as I was super dreading it.
Highlights of the day:
1. The cake. I really think I have a cake addiction.
2. Hunter behaved until the water hit his head, which means that for the first 45 minutes of mass he smiled and cooed. Of course that meant that he screamed the entire time we were in front but he's a baby and when you cram a baby into a 30 year old baptism gown thats made from wool, he sweats and gets cranky.
3. My parents made it, despite the crappy weather.
4. Hunter's godparents truly love him, I had doubts about picking his godfather (our BM) because I'm not sure he knows what being a godparent really means as far as his faith life, but, he really loves Hunter a lot and I suppose thats what matters.
5. I didn't kill anyone. Explained below:
Low points of the day:
1. When my MIL mentioned that she wouldn't participate in a pizza night the church was sponsoring b/c the $$ went to Haiti and she just "doesn't support Haiti, there are much more important causes in the US." W.T.F?!?!?! I thought my MIL was not like her crazy sister, but she apparently has got the touch of the crazies. Literally everyone's mouths dropped open. DH finally said "That's the stupidest thing I've heard. They're dying in the streets." HONESTLY?!?!? Who doesn't "support" helping people after a tragedy.
2. My MIL and mother had a rousing discussion in front of everyone about how Hunter will "never ever ever get to sleep in his expensive crib because he will be in Mommy and Daddy's room until he's four." Stop with the judging fools. He'll be out by the time he's a year. He likes sleeping there, we like having him there, and FYI, you're all a bunch of hypocrites because I slept in my mom's bed until I was seven when she got remarried. At least Hunter's in his own bed/pack and play (most of the time).
3. My mom looks like she's in horrible pain from her back and I feel awful for her. She could barely hold Hunter.
4. I tried to casually ask my stepdad if he'd be awake for his surgery on Tues (yes) and DH's aunt overheard and it spiraled into a 45 minute long one-sided conversation about all her family members with horrible heart problems. Dude. Shut up woman!
All in all it was a nice day with family, friends, and food and it was really cool to see Hunter baptized in the place we got married by the pastor who married us. I can't complain too much I suppose, right?
Re: Baptism - check!
Glad it went well!
I was 4 years old when my sister was baptized and I vividly remember when she started screaming as soon as the water hit her head. I had to cover my ears it was so loud!
I'm glad it went well overall, and you made it through!
Though I have to agree, WTF is wrong with your MIL?? Yikes!
Congrats on surviving the baptism!
I agree w Lore-what is wrong w MIL!?!... Amazing...
And health issues... sometimes, that's all someone has to talk about-although not nec appropriate.
For. real. You know what this means to me? Donate to both. I donated to Doctors Without Borders, but I also volenteer for soup kitchens and donate money to domestic causes as well. They're burying 10,000 people a day. There's only 6,000 people in my home town so that's absolutely shocking to me. The projected number of people dead is 200,000 . . . It's heartbreaking.
I'm glad you made it through. And there was cake. Man, I could use some cake right now.
