XP: Coleman & Franken now virtually tied

I forgot to update you last week - our late primaries came and went and Franken beat challenger Priscilla Lord Farris for the state's democratic nomination....

And now, he and Coleman are tied in the polls. This link is from a month ago, but I read a poll on MPR yesterday (and now can't find Sad) that says the same thing.

It seems Franken's ads are working. Yay.

Re: XP: Coleman & Franken now virtually tied

  • Interesting.  What are your thoughts on this?

I'm really not a fan of tax evaders getting elected, but it's not like the alternative is great either.

  • I despise Norm Coleman with basically my entire being (sidenote: in college, he hit on 3 of my friends at various bars around the twin cities). So that should tell you where I'm at with that.

I agree the tax issue is... well, an issue, but it's not like he was exactly evading taxes. He paid all of his income taxes to the state he lives in, even though he earned income in a bunch of other states. So, he reported income earned in, say, California, on his Minnesota state tax return. Interestingly, he actually over-paid in total amount that would've been owed had he reported income to the correct states instead of all in one. I agree it's a really stupid mistake, but I don't exactly blame him individually considering his accountant prepared the returns. I'd probably trust the accountant too, even if something didn't seem quite right.

The worker's comp taxes situation is something I'm not completely educated on, but from what I understand, that actually came to light before he started running, and he has paid the amounts and fine and everything is now hunky dory... and the local or national GOP brought it really "out" much later. I could be wrong on that one, that's just what I've understood it to be.
