Step One: got the curling iron
Step Two: curled hair
Step Three: sprayed with hair spray
Step Four: went outside to the corner store, where all the curls turned into loose waves.
Hmm... I think there needs to be a step 1? where I put some product into my hair before curling it... any suggestions?
Re: f/u curls question
I am right there with you!! I don't have fine hair and yet my hair just won't hold a curl. Which is interesting because I have naturally curly hair that I flat iron every day. I have done the mousse and gel thing before curling and that seems to be the only thing that helps.
I am curious to see what people say!
Amy's a pro, so go with what she says. I'll toss in my extras, though I don't know if it is good advice. I have the opposite problem - my hair doesn't stay straight after being flatironed if it is humid. It will hold curl perfectly until the next time I wash it. My daughter has straight hair that does not hold curl for more than 20 seconds. Here's what I've noticed with her. Absolutely no conditioner or conditioning shampoo. The time it curled the best was after swimming. The chlorine probably dries it out. Maybe smooth hair doesn't have anything to "grip" and the curl slides out.

Tresemme makes product you spray on your hair before curling it...it protects the hair from heat damage and locks the curls in place. It's in a black bottle with red cap/accents:

It works! I use it to blow dry my curls with a diffuser...it locks them in place!
